Although there’s no mention in the product description that the Marks & Spencer Capiz Beaded Ceiling Light takes inspiration from the Verner Panton Fun Lamp, it’s fairly obvious that this is the case.

Let’s start with the designer light (left). The Fun Lamp was introduced in 1964, with the focal point being those hand-cut mother of pearl (or steel) discs hung from three rings, creating a mirrored globe effect when lit and if there’s a breeze anywhere, a gentle ‘tinkling’ noise. You can pick this particular light up for around £629.

Over to Marks & Spencer, which is offering the retro Cadiz light with a similar look – three rings and an assortment of discs that provide the same lighting effect and ‘tinkling’ noise, but with slightly different proportions. Complete with bulb, it retails for £39.50.

But we warned if you order the budget option online – from personal experience, the Marks & Spencer online delivery service is one of the worst around and you could be waiting months for even the smallest item.
