Cast your mind back a couple of years and you may remember a collaboration between Mini Moderns and Galapagos for the Southbank Centre. Well, the latter two have teamed up again for a new collection, this time to produce the Bakerloo Bartolomew chair.
The Bartolomew is a cocktail chair that was produced in Germany in the 1950s, with looks typical of that decade, including a wide curved back and tapered legs. It's certainly a lot more glamorous than you'd associated with the average London transport ride.
Well, in this case, the glamour is enhanced thanks to the Underground, specifically the Bakerloo upholstery – one of the London Underground fabrics produced by Kirkby. It's a viscose velvet that's been used to upholster the style to great effect, with two versions available. The Bakerloo Blue is shown above, while the Bakerloo Grey, complete with very fetching orange piping is shown below. Matching cushions are also available (definitely something that doesn't happen on the average tube ride!).
The chairs are priced at £750 each.
Order them from the Southbank Centre Shop.
