These children's books by Dahlov Ipcar don't just look midcentury – they are midcentury. They're back to brighten our bookshelves thanks to being reissued by Flying Eye Books

Dahlov Ipcar is an American author and illustrator whose career has spanned five decades. Two of her titles have been selected for this reissue: The Wonderful Egg, a tale of dinosaurs originally published in 1958, and I Like Animals, featuring a zoo and first published in 1960. Each has gorgeous midcentury illustrations and a colour palette that typifies the era.

Flying Eye Books is the children's division of Nobrow publishing, the people behind such gorgeous titles as Eventually Everything Connects and London Deco book. They've done painstaking work to reproduce the colours of the original books, first produced using long-lost lithographic plates.

The books are suitable for kids of three to five (and probably a few grown-up ones too).

I Like Animals is priced at £11.99, while The Wonderful Egg costs £12.99.
