For an alternative mid-century style, check out this new book Tiki Pop: America imagines its own Polynesian Paradise by Sven Kirsten

Yep, it's an exploration of all things tiki – from fashion to music to eating to that all-important drinking category (it's by the same author as The Classic Dining book we featured a little while back). It looks pretty comprehensive: it's 384 pages for starters and it's been published to accompany an exhibition at the Musée du quai Branly in Paris (on until 28 September). And rather than purely focusing on the mid-twentieth century, it goes further back to the earliest enthusiastic beginnings of the style to its decline from popularity.

There's plenty to get lost in here – check out the spread below for an example. Just make sure you order the multilingual edition so you can do more than merely look at the pictures.

The book is priced at £34.99.
