It has the look of the classic midcentury String modular storage, but the midcentury-style Watford shelving system at La Redoute is both new and a little more affordable.
I suppose it all depends on your budget and what you think of this new kid on the block, which is part of a wider Watford range of furniture. Why Watford? I have absolutely no idea. I just know La Redoute has an extensive range of retro and midcentury modern designs under that name, taking in various coffee tables, bedside tables, TV units, chairs, desks, dining tables, sideboards and even a bed. Oh, this shelving system as well. If you want to kit out a full room or even a house, the wider range is worth checking out.
As are the shelving units within this part of the range. It started off with just a couple but presumably, with the range being a success, La Redoute has added in more sizes and more functionality. So whether you need storage in the living room, the bedroom or the home office, the Watford shelving has options to help you out.
As well as that functionality it looks the part too, not least if you are going down the midcentury modern route for your home.
As it stands, the Watford range has size options for standard shelving, units of various sizes with added cupboard storage, some units with drawer storage (again with different width options) and a unit with a built-in desk. Use them together or use them apart. They work either way. But for me, together in a run is where this range excels. If that’s not enough you can also get smaller wall shelving units to fix to the wall. Options aplenty.
As for price, that’s really down to what you go and as ever, La Redoute usually has a deal on at some point. As I write, there is between 10 and 25 per cent off the units, depending on the choice of unit. But before any discount prices start at £325 for a single unit.
