Anyone for a design classic? This 1960s Dieter Rams-designed Braun Atelier 2 audio system is on eBay and potentially a bargain.
If you don’t know much about it, let me fill you in with the detail. This audio system dates back to 1961. I know, it looks much later. In fact, it looks almost contemporary. That’s because the design was down to one of the most influential designers of the 20th century, Dieter Rams. Yes, Apple did learn a thing or two off him.
While the design might be quite forward looking, the technology is still very much of the 1960s, as you would expect. Contained in this lovely box is a radio receiver and a record player. The former seems to work fine, but the record deck ‘runs a little to slow’ and probably needs a service or some attention. Hardly surprising after all these years. The deck also needs a new stylus.
Condition is apparently mint or near mint and the unit works with all kinds of regale speakers, which just need wiring / plugging in. Fancy it? If you do, you’ll be pleased to know that this is a regular auction (always a bonus) with the price right now at £74.70.
