It looks like one I spotted for sale last year. But this restored 1962 Fiat 500D Trasformabile car is available to buy right now.
It isn’t the cheapest one on eBay. In fact, you can buy a vintage Fiat 500 in a similar colour for a fraction of the price. But it doesn’t quite have the impact of this particular Fiat.
This one dates from 1962, despite it looking fresh off the production line. it also has a the rare ‘suicide doors’, a full length sunroof and the round speedometer. Essentially, a very desirable model.
According to the seller, the car was bought many years ago by a now elderly Italian gentleman, who sold it to a dealership back in 2015 in what is described as ‘highly original’ and ‘time warp’ condition. It was then recommissioned by the garage before being offered for sale.
The seller says that ‘everything that was required has been reconditioned or replaced correctly’ whilst keeping things as original as possible.
The structure and floors were checked, the engine and gear box were overhauled and the clutch replaced, the interior was ‘fully and expertly retrimmed’ in the original colours and the door card set and all interior trim was renewed, including the roof frame.
The bumpers and brackets were polished, the original steel wheels fully shot blasted and painted and the car was also fully painted in Fiat Verde Chiaro.
It was purchased by an English dealer in 2016 but never registered, before being picked up by the current owner and seller. Further work was carried out, as well as tests, leaving the end result you see here.
The new owner will get a new MOT as well as registration for use in the UK (if you are in the UK), as well as the original Italian log book, invoices and specialist parts invoices.
As I said, it isn’t the cheapest out there, but at £16,495, it might be an investment if you look after it.
