You might not know the name, but you probably know the imagery. This is the classic 1980s music artwork by David Storey.
David Storey is a noted artist in his own right, but he started off his journey as a designer, creating of some of the UK’s most iconic music imagery back in the 1980s.
In fact, working alongside John Sims and Jerry Dammers, he created the graphic identity for The Specials and their label, 2 Tone.
If you have a soft spot for that era and the artwork, then you might be interested to know that many of the David Storey classics have been recreated by the artist as limited editions using the original artwork elements wherever possible.
The limited editions are available in runs of just 100, each one printed as a museum quality inkjet print on Somerset Velvet 330gsm paper using light-fast archival ink. Each one is also signed and numbered and includes a certificate of authenticity. Yes, this is ‘proper’ art, not a cheap copy.
You can pick out your own favourite, but I’ve pulled out a few classics to give you a flavour of what is being offered for sale Going down the page, you can find the This Are 2 Tone artwork, along with The Selecter’s Too Much Pressure, The Special AKA’s In The Studio and The Special’s Ghost Town.
Beyond 2 Tone there is also The Housemartins’ London 0 Hull 4, The La’s Way Out and Atomic by Blondie. Oh and you can see the man at work in the bottom image too.
Price? Well, these are limited edition art prints and not cheap posters as I said. With that in mind, they are priced as serious artwork, which is around the £220 mark.
