To be honest, the design itself sells it to be, regardless of what it does. Love Hulten has created a gaming monitor with the look of a midcentury modern TV. If that doesn’t get you excited, I don’t know what will.
At least, it will if you love retro gaming. You see, this isn’t just a pretty face. There is substance to back up the style on offer from the hardwood monitor.
But let’s start with the design itself, which is handmade in Mahogany, with the unit housing a 19-inch, 4:3 monitor complete with a custom screen configuration that mimics the curvature of an old CRT television. It’s the little touches that often make the best designs.
But new tech is at the heart of Yesterday Vision. The 1280×1024 monitor has full-range loudspeakers and features an HDMI connection for modern-era external devices, from modern gaming units to a Blu-ray player, laptops or a Google Chromecast.
All wrapped up in a design that has an authentic mahogany volume switch, wood surround and if you size up (you can go up to 55 inches if you want to spend big), a vintage speaker grille and midcentury tapered legs and under-unit storage.
If you want to stay old school, the second key selling point is likely to be for you. Inside this unit is a Raspberry Pi computer, which allows classic gaming systems including SNES, NES, Genesis, NeoGeo, MAME, Atari 2600, N64 and PSX to be run via emulation.
