These are amazing pieces of retro interior design. 1960s counterculture badge cushions by You Make Me Design.
I’m surprised it hasn’t been done before. Maybe it has and passed me by? But I am pretty sure this is a first. A very welcome first too.
If the maker’s name is familiar, it might be because of the retro washing powder cushions back in 2017, which were incredibly popular at the time. Sadly, they are no longer available, but these are. In fact, you can pre-order them now if you want to get ahead of the crowd and as each one is handmade, that’s probably a queue worth jumping.
As you might have guessed, this is a range of cushions based on original 1960s counterculture pin badges. Each of those designs has been replicated by hand by You Make Me Design, which is then digitally printed onto a lightweight cotton twill.
Note also that the back of the cushion isn’t just an afterthought (which is often the case with designs like this). With this particular range having backs made from a vintage fabric, which varies depending on what the maker has in stock. Which is nice as it makes each one rather unique.
Note that this is a closed cushion, with the cover not removable for washing. But it can be hand-washed or spot-cleaned if it does fall foul to mucky little hands, for example. Talking of small hands, these are not toys and as such, not suitable for children under three years of age.
The size is something like 220mm diameter and the price for any of the nine designs in the range, considering each one is handmade, is a very reasonable £12.
