Fancy a step back in time? This 1960s Airbnb house in Shildon, County Durham gives that impression when you walk through the door.

It’s the interior that sells this one. The ideas being that you are entering a terraced house back in the 1960s rather than a 1960s-designed house. Someone has done a great job with it too.
Described as a ‘Heartbeat Holiday’ cottage (after the TV show), the house has been fully refurbished with authentic 1960s fixtures and fittings. But don’t worry, the house still has enough modern-era amenities to keep you and your family amused when the novelty of the past has worn away.
But the novelty might be fun for a few days. Love the retro TV, along with that amazing kitchen space, the lighting, the fixtures and the fittings.
It doesn’t go full-on kitsch, which is always the danger when you go down this route. Some of it might not be as over the top as you might expect, but it has a good retro feel overall.
You’ll find it in the Railway town of Shildon, home of a Locomotion Railway museum and within walking distance of restaurants, public houses and shops. Durham, Barnard Castle, Bishop Auckland and Darlington can be reached easily by car if you need to be accessible to any of those places.
In terms of the price, you get a double bed and a bunk bed, so enough space for a small group or family for something like £70 per night, depending on the dates you choose.
