When I think BMW I think expensive and pretty dull. I don’t think of a car like this 1962 BMW 700S Cabriolet by Baur on eBay.
This is an absolute stunner and fort summer cruising, the perfect vehicle. The model dates back to 1959, with this model, a sportier take on the car, appearing a few years later. An upgraded engine face it added power, but it was the look that turned heads.
The convertible body was made by Karosserie Baur of Stuttgart, with this being one of 2,592 convertibles produced back then. How many survive? Well, I suspect a few do as this was a car to be seen in back in the early 1960s. But nowhere near that original number.
The one being offered here on eBay was formerly in the showroom of a German dealership when purchased by the owner. It has had ‘professional work’ undertaken to the double skinned floor which is apparently prone to rust.
Everything is said to work expect the clock and the original interior is still in place, Yes, it has seen some wear, but there is added authenticity from having it. The bodywork is described as ‘good’, the hood and tonneau are in good condition, the original mats are in place and the engine is in ‘good condition’, having been engineer owner maintained.
So a good example, even if this isn’t a perfect example. A new owner might want to refresh that interior or they might want to keep it for the original 1960s feel. Your call if you buy it.
Talking about buying it, the car isn’t cheap. £24,950 is the asking price, although the seller is willing to consider a cheaper offer.
