An interesting and rare design is back on the shelves for the first time in around 50 years. The 1970s Adidas Java trainers.

Interesting because you presume every Adidas design has been reissued umpteen times over the years. But in truth, a sizeable few just haven’t seen the light of day since they first got released for various reasons.

This one just happened to be missed out when the Island Series of Adidas classics was feeling the love a few years back. Although it’s not from the main Island Series. This one is from the Indonesian Island series.

It’s very much of its era, which might be another reason why the shoe didn’t reappear with the others a decade or so back. But its distinctive 1970s look is a big selling point for me.

Originally released in 1977 as part of that Indonesian island series, the maker describes it as ‘one of the hardest OG terrace trainers to find’, so rarity value is also on its side.

With that in mind, you might want to snap up a pair in case Adidas decides against making them a regular in the range.

I love the colours of red and blue (with a touch of white). The upper is premium suede, which is matched up with a leather lining and an off-white and red sole.

Branding is on the sole and tongue, and there appears to be a choice of two pairs of laces.

I suspect these might sell through, so if you want a pair, get over to Adidas with £90 as quickly as you can, especially if you happen to be a collector.
