They landed in suede a couple of weeks back, but the 1960s Adidas Tokyo trainers return in white leather is the big one for me.
Not that I have anything against the suede issue/reissue. It’s pretty much the same design as the one you see here. Except that it is leather. Which looks better and is far more suited to the time of year.
Adidas has produced some lovely 1960s shoes in leather of late, such as the Samba 62, and the Adidas London. And of course, the Adidas Japan from 1964.
The Japan ties in nicely with this one, as both launched at the 1964 Olympics in Tokyo. The Japan as more of a leisure shoe and the Adidas Tokyo as a track and field shoe complete with spikes. You will b e pleased to know that the spikes have been removed over the years and this is every bit as much a regular trainer as the Japan.
Very much of its day, this is a slim ‘low profile’ sports shoe reissued in an off-white leather with some contrasting collegiate green detailing.
The contrasts are with the stripes, the trim, and the trademark cross at the back of the shoe. There is also some suede around the toe and the lace box, as well as a slim gum sole and gold foil branding featuring the Tokyo name.
I love these 1960s reissues and it’s good to see Adidas delving into the archives more and more.
