Not just a good-looking retro design, these 1960s mountaineering smocks by Wolf Vintage Clothing are also pretty cheap.
But there’s another selling point to this design too, which you can probably work out from a glance down the page. Yes, plenty of colours to choose from. Hopefully, one will catch your eye.
The design might catch your eye too. It is very similar to the popular Alpine Smock by Lancashire Pike, which I featured way back in 2018. That was based on the smocks worn in the classic 1965 war movie The Heroes of Telemark, and is still sought after today.
Sadly, Lancashire Pike no longer makes clothes, which is a crying shame. I’ve been on the hunt for something similar, and here it is. Much cheaper than the Lancashire Pike smock, albeit in a more basic canvas compared to the Ventile of the last one. But as we are entering spring, that’s perhaps no bad thing.
The Lancashire Pike smock was also made to order, whereas this one is produced in larger numbers and has a wider choice of shades. So, there is no custom-made price tag.
In terms of the design, this smock is based on the classic vintage British RAF Mountaineering Search and Rescue garment. The smocks have also been pre-washed for a ‘soft and supple worn-in vintage feel’ to the fabric.
Like the original design from decades before, it features a large pocket in the centre of the chest that seals with two poppers on either side (instead of the traditional Velcro). It also has two lower patch pockets that fasten with buttons.
Lots of colours to choose from too, ranging from the traditional to more pastel shades. And cheap enough to pick up more than one if you cans’y make your mind up.
The price is a big selling point. This is an absolute bargain at just £69.95, with all sizes available too. A gem of a design that’s perfect for spring.
