Interesting architecturally, but this midcentury-inspired house in Gilston, Hertfordshire will also make a very cool home if you happen to have the significant asking price available. Sadly, we don't.
Designed in 1960 by the architecture department of the renowned building firm Helmer & Dyer (for the occupation of Mr. Helmer), it's a detached four or five-bedroom house, which has been the subject of 'extensive and meticulous' renovation. Thankfully there's still plenty of interest left – large bespoke picture windows, hardwood detailing and a Bath-stone open fireplace for example.
New additions include a complete reflooring of the ground floor in English oak, the addition of secondary glazing, re-wiring, re-plumbing and the addition of extra insulation and if they leave it, a house-full of Dieter Rams / Vitsoe shelving and some seating.
In specific terms, the ground floor has a WC, lobby, garden room, kitchen/dining area, living room, bathroom and two bedrooms. Upstairs, you'll find three more bedrooms (one with en suite shower room), second reception room and a bathroom. All of that within a once-acre plot.
