Midcentury in Liverpool? You'd better believe it. Even better, this this James Hunter-designed Man House in Woolton, Liverpool, Merseyside is on the market right now.

Battersea Blanket by Mary Penny

Battersea_blanket_01
A cosy blanket is always useful, whether for wrapping around yourself to keep warm or to lay out your picnic on in summer.

This Battersea Blanket by Mary Penny is more stylish than the traditional tartan blanket and being designed by a graduate of the Royal College of Art, is perhaps closer to a piece of art than your usual bedding. The iconic London landmark Battersea Power Station has been woven into the blanket in bold colours against a subdued background on one side, with the colours reversed on the other . It measures 140cm by 190cm and is made from 100% Lambswool.

Buy from Thorsten Van Elten for £215.

For sale: 1970s detached house at Bowness on Windermere – with original 1970s interior

House1

I usually start with an outside view of a house, but the kitchen in this 1970s detached house at Bowness on Windermere could be a page from a 1970s design magazine.

It's not – this is a house up for sale right now, with much its structure and interior largely unchanged from the decade that produced it. Obviously the agent says it's a 'blank canvas to the new purchaser to redesign and create their ideal home'. But if you love the 1970s, it probably offers much more than that.

For sale: 1930s six-bedroom art deco property in Templeogue Road, Dublin

Dng1

Big thanks to Greg Stevenson on Facebook and Under The Thatch on Twitter for flagging up this stunning 1930s six-bedroom art deco property in Templeogue Road, Dublin. But it does come with a good amount of notoriety.

The house was built in 1939, but gained that notoriety in 1940 when the house was owned by a 'go-between' between the IRA and the German Nazi regime. Indeed, it was used as a safe house for an SS officer – and when it was raided by the police, the owner was arrested and sentenced to five years in prison. The SS man had already departed. You can read the full story from the Irish Times here.

For sale: 1950s Miramar house in Mackworth, Derby, Derbyshire – with original 1950s kitchen

Mira1

We hunt high and low for interesting houses and by looking at the exterior of the Miramar house in Mackworth, Derby, Derbyshire, it might not look like our most exciting find. But amazingly, parts of this house are still much the same as they were in the 1950s.

Miramar is a detached, single-story house, designed by noted Derby architect Derek Montague and built for a local businessman in 1952, despite having the looks of an earlier, art deco era. It stands in an elevated position, with plenty of country views, which is best viewed from the floor-to-ceiling picture window in the entrance hallway.
