For sale: 1930s seaside art deco house in Porth, Cornwall

Deco1

Yesterday we featured an art deco house that was pretty much still in its original state. Today, we have the flipside – this 1930s art deco house in Porth, Cornwall.

Details on its history are scarce, but was almost certainly the seaside retreat of someone with plenty of spare cash all those years ago, renovated (possibly over-renovated) with an interior that's straight out of the modern era.

For sale: Melville Aubin-designed Sunpark 1930s art deco house in Brixham, Devon

Sun1

All too often, we feature art deco houses on these pages that have been over-renovated, still with key period features, but without the character of the original properties. That's not the case with the Sunpark art deco house in Brixham, Devon.

It's a grade II-listed property, designed by Melville H Aubin in 1935 for the family that's actually selling it right now. But more than that, this property looks to be in its original condition, hardly updated since the day it was built.

Modernist-style FishCondo fish tank

FishCondo

While you may not be able to afford a modernist apartment for yourself, this FishCondo is surely the next best thing: a Le Corbusier style development for your fish.

A world away from the faux bridges and treasure chests usually associated with fish tanks, this design is all gleaming white and straight lines. What's more, the Condos are stackable so you can buy a few and build your own fishy development, worthy of a Ville Contemporaine.

Each FishCondo costs £40.

For sale: Early 80s-designed ‘High-Tech’ house in Crawley Down, West Sussex

Crawley1

I don't know what to make of this. A touch of midcentury, a touch of the 'Bond lair', but overall, this early 80s-designed house on Crawley Down, West Sussex is actually associated with the 'High-Tech' style of architecture that was pioneered by Norman Foster, Richard Rogers and others in the 1970s.

You really need to see all the images to appreciate what a striking property this is, both inside and out. The work of Brian Cooper and completed in the early 1980s, it sits on a secluded 5.5 acre plot near the village of Crawley Down in West Sussex and is sold either as the existing 4-bedroom house with potential to be extended, or more worryingly, as a demolition project should someone want the land for a new house. Yes, really.
