John Lewis midcentury-inspired Revival sideboard

Revival1

A modern design that takes influence from the past – that's the John Lewis Revival sideboard.

It's a sideboard of the old school, taking its design inspiration from the midcentury era. It's made from white oak solids and veneers, with detailing including those splayed taped legs, an 'arc motif' in the skirt and storage from the three drawers and a cupboard.

John Lewis has this at £699. If you like the look, make sure you also check out the other items in the range, including a console and a coffee table. You can see another image of the sideboard over the range.

Stelton Vacuum Jug by Erik Magnussen

Stelton

A classic design has just got its latest colour update – the Stelton Vacuum Jug by Erik Magnussen.

Designed back in 1977 and although very reminiscent of that time, it's still Stelton's biggest selling item, hence the regular colour updates.

As the name suggests, it's a vacuum jug made of ABS plastic and glass (for the inner), a unique 'rocker stopper' being its unique selling point. That and the looks. Three colours new for 2010, which you can see above, all selling for £49 each. Bread bags not included.

Onitsuka Tiger Lay-Up 72 trainers reissued

Layup1

If a sports shoe screams its era, that shoe is the newly-reissued Onitsuka Tiger Lay-Up 72 .

A distinctive piece of footwear from – as the name suggests – 1972, it was revolutionary at the time, but now just a great all-round boot with a seriously retro twist. Just look at that branding for a start.

This version is offered in two colours (see the other over the page), with a nylon upper and vulcanised sole. Get it while it's around, the Onitsuka Tiger Lay-Up 72 sells for £49.99.

Verpan Pantop pendant lamp by Verner Panton

Pantop

Yesterday we covered the reissue of the Verner Panton Pantop floor lamp. What we didn't know then was that the Verner Panton Pantop pendant lamp was also being reissued.

It's much the same in terms of design, a 1980 piece with that bell-like shape made of aluminium, an all-new set of colours to choose from and some transparent cabling to hang it.

Like the floor version, Verpan sells this with an engraved Verner Panton signature and sells it for £230. A glass version is also available, which sells for £305.

Tony Palmer’s 1970s The Wigan Casino documentary now available on DVD

Wigan

Not just 'a' Wigan Casino documentary, Tony Palmer's The Wigan Casino is still the definitive documentary about northern soul's most famous venue, purely because the filmmaker was in the right place at the right time.

Admittedly, it's been around on bootlegs for a few years, but this is the first official release. For the uninitiated, Tony Palmer went into the Wigan Casino in 1977 to produce a short documentary for Granada as part of its 'This England' series of shows, mixing footage of the club with vintage photos of a deprived Wigan and reminiscenes of elderly folk of that time. It wasn't much better in the mid-70s, but the Casino footage shows how life can be better – even just for a night.

Electric Roulette managed to get an advance copy of the disc and a review of The Wigan Casino is online right now. If you like what you read or already know you want this in your collection, it's available to buy right now from Amazon for £7.49.
