Lonsdale bag by Notting Hill Design

376_1_2_261

Big handbags go in and out of fashion like nobody’s business, but a perennial favourite is the seventies style oversized handbag.

Structured in heavy looking leather, it might not be girly, but it does mean business. This Notting Hill Design Lonsdale bag is a great example, especially in this particularly 70s shade of orange. Handcrafted in Italy from real leather and patent, this is one of those bags to last a lifetime.

The price tag should come as no surprise in that case, at £625 from Anedoti online.

Auction Atrium launches vintage handbag sale

Portobello

If you’re on the look out for a vintage handbag or travel bag, it might be worth checking out the Auction Atrium vintage handbag sale, which has just gone live.

You can find it in the ‘Portobello Road’ category, offering everything between 1910 and the 1980s, as well as a number of collector’s pieces and designer labels. Pictured above is just one example, a ladies travel case from the 1950s in red crocodile skin, complete with mirror, fitted interior and original key.

It’s estimated at between £300 – £500, although it’s currently at just £30 – so a potential bargain. If that’s not your thing, browse the entire listings via the link below.

Get a cold war look with the Interflug retro flight bag

Interflug

If you didn’t know, Interflug was the state airline for what was formerly East Germany (from the 1960s through to the 1990s). Obviously, when the wall came down, so did the airline – but you can still get the iron curtain look with the Interflug retro flight bag.

Featuring the ‘classic’ logo on the dark blue bag along with red contrast piping, the bag has a detachable/adjustable strap, a large single pocket and a slim pocket on the outside.

It retails for £22.

Vintage Star Wars Print Tote Bag

Star_wars_tote_bagDupenny make tote bags made from vintage fabric. The current selection includes several made from retro floral material, but it was this Vintage Star Wars Print Tote Bag that particularly caught my attention.

It is made from fabric printed with cartoon incarnations of Star Wars characters.  As they are handmade from vintage fabric, they can not guarantee that each bag will look exactly like the one picture so you may get more R2-D2 than Han Solo!

It is backed with cotton canvas for extra durability and has a navy materials reverse and matching handles.

It costs £18 and is available to buy from Dupenny through the Not on the High Street website.

Not the most expensive bag you will buy or indeed the most rare – but the Gola Bronson bag is something of a timeless classic.

Available in an endless number of retro colourways, the shoulder bag has an adjustable strap, large inside picket, smaller front pocket and should you forget who you are, a slot for your name and address.

As cheap as they come at £19.99 each.
