Sawaka Saruno retro cycling helmets

Cyclehelmet

More of us are cycling – which means more cycling accessories on the market. Like these eye-catching Sawaka Saruno cycling helmets.

hey are the work (as the name suggests) of Japanese designer Sawaka Saruno, who loved riding a bike, but didn’t think much of the cycling accessories on the market for women. So she created some.

The helmets meet all safety requirements and come in a range of styles, including the Kiku and Sakura above. All feature a side adjuster, diamonte on the buckle and the brand label on the rear. All retail for £60 each.

Jopo

First introduced in 1965, the Helkama Jopo bicycle is a Finnish classic – and one you can buy again today.

The new version of this ‘bike for all’ is an update, but keeping the original’s obvious features – bold colour choices, low front frame, 24-inch wheels, single gear, luggage carrier and kickstand, as well as the ability to adjust the seat and the handlebar to fit most sizes. There’s even the addition of an integrated lock for these crime-ridden times.

You can pre-order now in your colour of choice from the Finnish Design Shop, priced at 339 Euros (around £270).

Evisu AceJet retro scooter helmet

Evisu1

Good or bad? The jury’s out on this Evisu AceJet scooter helmet.

Loving the shape, very much in the style of the classic 50s/60s lid, and ideal for matching up with a pair of plain goggles. There’s also a leather strap and tartan-style lining.

But whether the denim cover and Evisu logo is something you’ll want omn your head is open to question. Launched in Japan and available online from Japanese retailer Ripe, it retails for 42,200 Yen (which is a fairly hefty £208). More detailed images over the page.

eBay Watch: 1990 Trabant car

Trabant

We mentioned a few weeks back that East Germany’s most famous son – the Trabant – is due to be remade and relaunched. Which makes it a good time to get in first by picking up an original Trabant.

This one is one of the last to made back in 1990 and features a VW Polo engine, a new starter motor and 83,000 on the clock. But best of all, it doesn’t seem to have been altered externally – which could mean a shrewd investment as a future cult classic.

Note is it left-hand drive before you get your money out – but you could pick it up for a song with the £500 starting bid not yet in place.

Armadillo introduces retro-styled mac for scooter riders

Arm_mac_2

Remember the Urban Parka from Armadillo? Well, the company has just launched its new range of scooter-friendly clothing – including a classic mac for both men and women.

The coats are pictured above, with the men’s Classic Macintosh on the left, the women’s Scarlett Macintosh on the right. Both feature a double-button front and belt fastening. And as they’re designed for scooter riding, there’s also d3o impact protection, wind and water-proofing, Thinsulate insulation and the use of a breathable fabric for all garments.

Both will be available online in the very near future, alongside new male/female parkas and a variety of accessories. Pricing to be confirmed.

Ford set to bring back the Capri?

Fordcapri

It’s coming up to the 40th anniversary of the Ford Capri – and it could see the return of this British 70s classic.

That’s according to German magazine AutoBild, which claims a modern Capri will appear next year, going into production in 2012. Details (as you might expect) are sketchy – but it’s said to be larger than the (underrated) Ford Puma, but smaller than the Cougar, offering decent space for both people and luggage. It’s also going to have a range of engines, likely based on the ones used for the Ford Focus.

But the big question is obviously whether Ford will go down the retro route with the looks or whether it’ll look like all the other boxes on wheels currently being offered by the company. We live in hope.
