Mod target for your car roof

Roof_target

While we’re on the subject of mods, how about this mod target for your car roof?

Designed for the Mini (probably as a cheap(er) and replaceable option to BMW’s own customisation), the decal comes in one piece, ready to fit to your Mini or indeed any other car. It’s designed for a white roof, but if you haver a different colour, a version with a white outline is available for an additional £10.

The standard decal retails for £65.99.

Buy a vintage Mercedes-Benz – direct from the company

Merc_vintage

You can trawl the classic car magazines or you can take a chance on eBay – but there’s no greater guarantee of a classic Mercedes-Benz than buying it directly from the company.

You can browse the cars for sale at the Mercedes-Benz Classic Center online or you can visit the showroom at Stuttgart in Germany. And if you’re a fan of classics, it might be worth checking it out in person. We’re very much taken with this Mercedes-Benz 280 SL Roadster, dating back to 1971 (although the model actually dates from 1963), which has a 2.8-litre engine, brown leather interior, automatic gearbox and an original Becker Mexico radio (recently reissued and featured here).

The price? 65,000 Euros. But you can buy with confidence – these are the people who maintain all the cars in the Mercedes-Benz Museum.

A tribute to Evel Knievel

News reaches us of the sad death of a true legend – Evel Knievel – who has passed away aged just 69, after suffering health problems for several years.

An ever-present on TV screens in the 1970s, Knievel is best remembered by children of the era as much for his toy replica as his jumps. And with that in mind, we present this tribute to the great man – classic jumps recreated by the classic toy stunt set.

We’ll miss you Evel.

Gap offers custom-striped Vespa LX50

Gap_vespa
Gap
has taken time out from making casual clothing for middle-management to dress up a Vespa LX50 scooter in stripes.

As far as we know (and please tell us if we’re wrong), this is only available in the US and only for a limited time or while stocks last (December 23rd 2007 at the latest according to Gap). The bike itself is nothing different to the standard LX model with a 50cc engine and throwback looks – although its asking price of $6,000 (£3,000) is much higher.

Whether it’s worth around $2,000 (£1,000) more for the stripes, I’m not sure. If you think it is, get down to your Vespa dealer sharpish.

Meridian F80 – home entertainment system with the looks of a 1960s Ferrari

Meridian_f80

What do you get if you cross a high-end audio maker with a high-car end car manufacturer? The Meridian F80.

Ferrari took control of the looks and apparently modelled it on the classic 1960s ‘shark nose’ Ferrari 156 racer. Although you would probably need to be a Ferrari nut to tell. For the rest of us, it’s a quirky entertainment system with two speakers and a subwoofer packed in for 160w of output, not to mention a CD/DVD player, DAB/FM/AM radio, all the connectivity you need (including your iPod) and a clock/alarm function.

There’s also a body made by Ferrari and a choice of Ferrari colours. You just know it isn’t cheap – and it isn’t at £1,495.
