Beg Bicycles – vintage-style cycles and accessories

Beg1

The world of vintage cycling seems to be a rapidly growing one right now, with Cambridge-based Beg Bicycles being the latest to enter the fray.

The company claims to mix retro charm with the latest modern components – chrome handlebars,  a posture-perfect steel frame, classic Brooks leather saddle, leather handle grips and a retro colour palette (Persephone Pink, Toad Grey and Flirty 30s Green) mix it with high quality bicycle components for the integrated hub gears and roller brakes, with a built-in hub-powered dynamo light system topping things off.

eBay watch: 1970s Fiat 124 Spider

Fiat1

The sun is out, the sky is blue and our minds drift to thoughts of a convertible. There's no denying that this Fiat 124 Spider is a tasty number.

It dates to 1979, but was imported to the UK in 1991, racking up 91,775 miles over that time, but only 1,800 by the current owner since 1995. Some modern additions (like a CD player), but most is original, with the body work described as 'near concourse condition' and although some work could do with being carried out, it sounds like it's good to go now.

Indeed, £2,000 of work has been carried out by the current owner, so it must be in some kind of decent shape. Another image over the page or check out the site for many more. £4,500 is the current price – or grab it on 'buy it now' for £5,000.

2012 Volkswagen Beetle gets an official launch

Beetle1

Apparently the 'new' Volkswagen Beetle has been around since 1998, so VW thought it was time to go back to drawing board. The result is the 2012 Volkswagen Beetle, which is officially launched today.

If you want to just see the pretty pictures, check out over the page for those. But if you want detail, read on. Launching at car shows in Shanghai, Berlin and New York, it's likely to appear at dealers from late 2011, offered in various guises – a 170 horsepower 2.5-litre version, a turbo-charged 2.0-litre four-cylinder TSI engine or the latest TDI turbo diesel unit. This is no Fiat 500 competitor, that's for sure.

eBay watch: 1971 Ford Capri 3.0 GTXLR MK1

Capri

Not sure I'm all that keen on later models, but the earlier Ford Capris are very stylish cars – like this 1971 Ford Capri 3.0 GTXLR MK1, which is on eBay right now.

It's a low-mileage mode, with just 59,000 on the clock from five owners since new, with period black vinyl roof, 'rally red' colour scheme and what's described as a 'reasonable' interior, with new carpets and door cards fitted.

A few bits and pieces still need sorting out (see listing for details), but it seems to run fine and has 12 months MOT. Tax-exempt, as you might have guessed. Still a bit of time left – £2,050 is the current price.

eBay watch: 1970s Jensen Interceptor MKII

Jensen

It's an icon of an era and was once the car to be see in for the man (or woman) about town. 40 years on and this Jensen Interceptor MKII is still a car that turns heads.

Dating back to 1971, with just under 90,000 on the clock and a whopping 6,276cc engine, this particular Interceptor has apparently had £5,000 spent on it over the last nine months and has a good paint job, with just a couple of blemishes. Aside from that, most of what you see is original and tested, including the electric aerial, cigar lighter, boot interior light, under bonnet lights and door open lights. The air-con should be fine with a bit of work too.

On top of all that, this tax-exempt drive has had a full service, change of oil and new filters. Check out the photos for a close-up inspection and if you like, the opening bid is £3,000.

1970s space age cars up for sale at RM Auctions

Car1

Cheers to Andrew for flagging up an auction that's going to get lovers of space age motors drooling – the RM Auctions motoring sale at Villa d'Este event on the shores of Lake Como in Italy.

The lots range from classic cars to legendary concept cars of the 1960s and 1970s, which are the property of the Bertone museum and the items we are flagging up. Above, you'll find the 1970 Lancia Stratos HF 'Zero' and over the page, you'll find a 1974 Lamborghini Bravo, a 1980s Lamborghini Athon and a 1967 Lamborghini Marzal – the last of those apparently driven by Prince Rainier and Princess Grace at the start of the 1967 Monaco GP.

Want one? Estimates for the concepts range from 60,000 Euros through to 1.5 million Euros for that Marzal. See more images (and more motors) from the auction, which takes place on 21st May. Compared to those prices, the catalogue is fairly cheap at 70 Euros!
