Mid-Century Modern Christmas Cards

Il_570xN_195723720

For those determined to have an entirely retro Christmas, Etsy seller dodelinedesign has some great Christmas cards designs, with my favourite being the Mid-Century Modern Christmas Cards.

These cards features a pile of classic chairs (it looks like an Eames design), stacked on top of one another in a Christmas tree formation and topped with a simple red star. You can buy an individual card for around £1.90, or buy in packs of 8 or 20 to save some money, which are priced just under £10 and around £18 respectively.

Buy them online at Etsy.

Retro Advent Calendar Box

Normal_xmas
For most high street shops, the countdown to Christmas begins before summer is even over, but for the rest of us, it starts in earnest in December with an advent calendar to mark off the days.

Rather than buy disposable cardboard one, this Retro Advent Calendar Box will last for a number of year and allow you to fill up the days with personalised treats for your children or loved one. It is made from wood and each door is decorated with a vintage style festive illustrations.

It costs £39 from Lapin and Me via Not on the High Street, and if you order it this week, you should receive it in time for the beginning of December.

Jonathan Adler Pop Menagerie Christmas Tree Ornaments

Popmenagerie
Jonathan Adler’s new Pop Menagerie range proves that Christmas tree ornaments don’t have to be twee or tinselly.

There are three ornaments in the collection; a lion, a peacock and an elephant. Each one is made from white porcelain, decorated with bright bursts of pattern, in the 60s/70s style we have come to expect from Jonathan Adler. They are suggested as an ideal commemorative gift for a baby’s first Christmas, and are supplied in a matching gift box, but I don’t think you need the excuse of a baby to add something this stylish to your tree.

The ornaments cost $28 each (about £20) from the Jonathan Adler website.

Sukie Christmas Cards

4024_SUKIE_Peace-252x356
Although only just November, it probably isn’t too early to be planning for Christmas especially when ordering things online. So here is my first suggestion for suitably retro Christmas cards from Sukie.

Like other Sukie products, the Christmas cards feature folk art style illustrations in a palette of blue, green, red and pink. There are five designs to chose from; Peace, Love, Joy, City (which includes a snokflake and Christmas tree to keep it festive) and Tree.

They cost £1.80 per card from Nineteen Seventy Three.

Book plate gift wrap sets from Present & Correct

Book plate
Without mentioning the word, it's soon to be that time of year when you'll need some wrapping paper close to hand. For a more stylish than Santa option, take a look at these new book plate gift wrap sets from Present & Correct.

Each set contains four sheets of paper with a different design. The sheets all reference classic book plates from the 1940s and 50s, using eye-catching geometric patterns. To add the finishing touch, each sheet bears the inscription 'This gift belongs to' in the place of where a book lover would normally claim their ownership, therefore eliminating the need for separate address labels.

Both good-looking and time-saving, a set costs £6.75.

Patchwork Harmony vintage chocolate moulds Christmas decorations

Patchwork copy

Christmas tree up but missing that final decorative touch? Patchwork Harmony have come up with an unusual but (literally) sweet idea. They are selling vintage chocolate mould decorations: moulds that are no longer in use, hung on ribbons, ready to hang onto the tree.

Somehow, judging from the image, the pretty shapes and the slightly aged material of the moulds actually seem to work quite well as decorations. Perhaps it would be worth plundering your Gran's cupboard or your local charity shops and seeing if you can make your own. If not, you can buy five in a pack for £6.95.
