Willy Wonka Everlasting Gobstopper Christmas decoration by James Lethbridge

Gobstopper

A long title for a fairly small, but very iconic design – the Willy Wonka Everlasting Gobstopper Christmas decoration by James Lethbridge.

Made as a limited edition of just 20 for 20ltd, this is an exact copy of the Everlasting Gobstopper from the 1971 movie version of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, with Royal College of Art graduate Lethbridge producing the decoraton by hand, using rare-coloured borosilicate glass and a considerable amount of skill.

Rare glass? Just 20? Of course, it's not going to be cheap. You can secure one for £90, which could prove an investment if you look after it.

Make your own Trellick Tower stocking at the East London Design Show

Trellickstocking

The Trellick Tower on this Christmas stocking will look very familiar to regular readers of this site. Well, if you're a fan of the design, Clothkits (we featured another of their collaborations with People Will Always Need Plates on the VW dungarees earlier this week) are running Make your own Trellick Tower stocking workshops at the East London Design Show over this weekend. The workshops cost just £10 and have all the materials, equipment and helping hands necessary to craft your own Christmassy Brutalist architecture-inspired stocking.

The East London Design Show runs from the 4 to 6 December at Shoreditch Town Hall. Included in the 100 plus exhibitors are designers like Michelle Mason, Mini Moderns and Snowden Flood, all of whose work has been previously featured on this site. So, even if you don't fancy getting crafty, the fair still seems well worth a visit.

For more details and to book your place on the workshop visit the Clothkits website

Bengt Johansson Christmas Pendant

Liten_stjarna_221

This Christmas Pendant by Bengt Johansson is proof that you can have retro Christmas decorations without any hint of gaudiness.

Based on traditional Swedish designs, the pendants are made from pine using traditional methods. The pendants are available in a choice of sizes, the small measures 30cm and costs £33.91, whilst the large measures 42 cm and costs £51.30. The design is simple yet stunning and the only downside I can see is that you may not want to take it down after the festive period.

There is a three week delivery time from the Scandinavian Design Center, so you will have to order quickly to receive yours in time for this Christmas.

Roddy & Ginger Christmas stocking

R&G christmas stocking

The countdown to Christmas begins in earnest tomorrow. There's always lots of tempting ideas for gifts on these pages but how do you collect together all your gifts in a suitably retro style? Perhaps this Christmas stocking from Roddy & Ginger can help.

It's a simple white stocking printed with a bird motif, one of Scandinavian folk-art designs that Roddy & Ginger do so well. The stocking is available in two colour combinations – either red and pink or chocolate and blue – and is printed on cotton, though they will make it in linen for you on request

And, very importantly, at almost half a metre long there's lots of space for your presents inside.

The stocking costs $26 from their Etsy store

Union Jack Paper Chains by Creative Flourish

Paperchains

Whether these Union Jack paper chains by Creative Flourish are more suited to a Jubilee Street Party than Christmas is up for debate.  But they are different to the usual plain ones and would be the perfect decorative backdrop when watching the Queen's Speech on Christmas Day.

There are different designs available including christmas doves and hearts and leaves. The pack contains enough links to make a chain 3 metres long and are priced at £4.00 at Not On The High Street.

Daniel Heath’s Circus baubles

Daniel heath bauble

You may remember Daniel Heath's High Wire wallpaper, a whimsical slice of Victoriana based around life in the Big Top. Well, for an alternative look for your Christmas tree, you may want to invest in these circus baubles. They are made from wood that has been screen-printed with some of his imagery of animals flying through rings of fire and acrobats performing feats of daring. Each bauble is hung on copper wire.

These baubles are just a selection available from the Shop Floor Project's Bauble exhibition, a selection of unusual and beautifully crafted objects for bedecking your tree with. The beauty and the craftsmanship comes at a price however: these baubles cost £28 each.
