London Underground Film Map Collection

4771_1432_240_240_FFFFFF_0
The London Underground map is an accepted design classic in its own right, but its reinterpretation for the London Underground Film Map Collection, gives it a different spin.

Here the station names have been replaced mainly with the names of films which have been filmed near that station in the past 70 years. Other stations have been renamed with actors, directors or television shows with local connections. The design is available on various products including mugs, t-shirts and placemats.

Prices range from £4.95 for a travelcard wallet up to £24.95 for a set of placemats.  See the whole collection online at the London Transport Museum shop.

Chelsea Girls print by Siggi Eggertsson

Chelsea1

The original poster was a piece of iconic 60s design but Chelsea Girls gets a new look courtesy of this print by Siggi Eggertsson.

Andy Warhol's 1966 film is often remembered more for its poster by Alan Aldridge than for the film itself, which followed some of the residents in New York's Chelsea Hotel. That cast included Nico and the film then inspired her debut album the following year. Probably because of that, Nico is the star of this poster, depicted in a bright and colourful manner that reflects the Pop art associated with Warhol. Add to that some other nice details too – such as the cast list worked into the main design – and you've got a nice piece of original art work for your walls.

The giclee print is available in two sizes at two prices: either A2 for £85 or 60cm x 84cm for £145.

The Prisoner limited edition poster by Piper Gates Design

Prisoner

You might well remember Piper Gates Design from the Syd Barrett colouring book as well as the earlier Joy Division colouring book. Well, the company has now moved into limited edition artwork, kicking off with this limited edition poster of The Prisoner.

It's a smart item too. Obviously inspired by 1960s cult classic TV series The Prisoner (see McGoohan and that 'bubble' on the front cover), it also uses the format of 1960s Penguin paperback reference books, complete with an old 3'6 price tag on the top.

25 copies only are being made, all sized at 500mm x 700mm, printed on 194 gram paper and signed by the artist. £19.99 secures you one online.

Morph coasters from The Gifted Penguin

Morph_coaster_2_lr
If you remember Tony Hart and his plasticine partner, Morph, fondly, take a look at the Morph coasters, available from The Gifted Penguin.

Morph first appeared on telly in 1977 and remains a firm childhood favourite. Here the character unfortunately looks like he's been flattened but handily has been flattened into the shape of a perfect coaster. The coaster is made from moulded plastic and could perhaps be paired up with the Morph bookends for a look worthy even of Tony Hart's gallery?

The coaster costs £7.99.
