Design Museum’s Saul Bass limited edition exhibition poster

Saulbass

Back in 2004, London’s Design Museum held an exhibition of the work of Saul Bass, producing a superbly stylish poster to go along with it. If you missed it, here’s some good news – a limited edition re-print is now available.

Saul Bass was the master of film title design thanks to his collaborations with Alfred Hitchcock, Stanley Kubrick and Martin Scorsese. This poster was inspired by Bass’ titles for Otto Preminger’s Anatomy of a Murder and is sized at 1000 x 700mm and printed on parilux matt white 150 gsm paper.

Just £15 buys you one – but don’t hang about, once the new stock has sold through, no more will be printed.

Channel Changer Ray Gun with 50s sci-fi looks

Channel_ray

If you’re search through the TV channels for some low budget vintage science fiction, there can’t be a better way of doing it then with the Channel Changer Ray Gun.

What you see is essentially what you get – a gun straight out of a cult space flick, with a single to work your way through the channels, complete with appropriate sound effect.

Cheap too – just £8.99 when it goes on sale in August.

Star Wars USB hubs – with movement and sounds

Star_wars_usb

More Star Wars geekery, this time the Star Wars USB hubs – fresh out of Japan.

If you love the movie, this is actual quite a useful bit of merchandise, offering four extra USB connection points for your PC, with the added bonus of sound effects and in the case of R2-D2, some movement of the head.

Japan gets these in July for the equivalent of £33. I suspect various collector’s stores will have them soon after.

Mio Knight Rider sat nav system – with original KITT voice

Mio_knight

Fans of cheesy 80s crime fighting show Knight Rider are in for a treat – the Mio Knight Rider sat nav unit will soon hit the shelves.

Yes, you can be the ‘Hoff’ in whatever car you choose, as the Mio unit offers directional advice from William Daniels – the man who originally voiced KITT. Power it up and you get a ‘Hello Michael, where do you want to go today?’ request, which is probably even better if you happen to be called Michael. There’s even some flashing red lights to give it that authentic retro tech look.

Oh yes – and it’s a fully-functioning sat nav unit too, with everything you might expect (maps, traffic problems etc). It launches in the US first, selling for $270 (around £135).

Star Wars-themed Pez dispensers

Starwars_pez

Even though the sweets taste like sugared chalk, I’m guessing we have all had a Pez dispenser at one time or other in our lives. But perhaps not one as cool as these Star Wars-themed Pez dispensers.

Take your pick from a Darth Vader, Death Star or Stormtooper, all 12 inches tall and packed with enough sweets to keep you hyperactive for hours. And not only that – they also light up and play the Star Wars theme.

Expect the three models here to be followed by C-3PO, Chewbacca, R2-D2 and Yoda, all selling for around the equivalent of £10 each.
