Limited Edition Alessandro M. Corkscrews

Bpopupalessirock Alessi Alessandro M. corkscrew was only designed a few years ago but is already a design favourite. The original is cute but now Panik are selling a number of Limited Edition Alessandro M. corkscrews.

Pictured here is my favourite, Ed Rock, the familiar corkscrew man dressed as a quintessential 60s rock star complete with shades and a psychedelic patterned guitar. For a more seventies touch, there is the Honolulu edition, dressed in a garish Hawaiian shirt and flower garland. Comic book fans may prefer the Superman version.

Prices range from approximately £39 to £60 depending on the exact design.

Vintage sweet wrapper badges

Sweets

As a child, a good way of passing the time of day in the long holidays was making badges out of old packaging and crisp packets, something designer Anwen Williams is still doing with these vintage sweet wrapper badges.

There’s a good choice to choose from, including the Black Jack, Fruit Salad and Refresher pictured here, all 3.5cm in diameter and all handmade.

And you can pick them up for £2.50 each.

Elvis Worktop Saver

ElvisboardThe Elvis estate earns more money each year than most living celebrities can even dream about, and amongst the music, there is quite a lot of Elvis memorabilia, the most of which is frankly awful. However, here is a product that I don’t think is officially endorsed – the Elvis Worktop Saver.

Whilst the face on the board is unmistakably the King, it is made up of an assortment of vegetables which probably nicely avoids infringing on any image rights. A good gift for Presley fans or for anyone who might take a certain pleasure in disrespectfully chopping up their carrots on an image of an icon.

This is Glint are selling the boards for £13.50.

50s-inspired Skylon Resturant at London’s Royal Festival Hall

Skylon
When I hear the name Royal Festival Hall, I instantly think of the Festival of Britain. So it’s only fitting that its new Skylon Resturant is inspired by the building’s origins.

The Skylon has been designed by Conran and Partners, with a colour scheme and fittings that pay tribute to the 1950s, without actually taking it back to that era. So expect some mid-century-inspired furnishings, big chandeliers, an olive, bronze and gold colour scheme plus walnut and limestone floors.

As for the food? Well, we can’t comment as we haven’t eaten there, but looking at the online menu, it’s certainly not ration book cooking.

Monopoly Mugs

MonopolymugsThere has been quite some fuss recently about the new UK version of the Monopoly board featuring where the prestigious places on the board went to St Albans and Exeter! But to my mind, the classic London version really can’t be beat, so I was delighted to find these Monopoly Mugs.

There are 18 designs to choose from, including Go To Jail, Electricity Company, Waterworks and a selection of the streets.

New Rooms Online is selling them for £5.75, which means for once Park Lane costs the same as Old Kent Road.

Noguchi Tea Cup Set

Tea_cup_and_large_saucer We recently featured the Prismatic Table, a design by Isamu Noguchi that has only recently been put into production. Similarly, the Noguchi Tea Cup Set was designed in 1952, but took 50 years before being available to buy.

Like Noguchi’s other work, the Tea Cup set blends western Modernism with the traditional Japanese tea ceremony and is in fact based on an old terracotta cup the designer owned.

Pop UK are selling the sets priced £47.
