Family Favourites tea towel by Charlotte Farmer at New House Textiles

Family favourites

The 1950s Scandinavian designs from New House Textiles are frequently featured on this site. The newest additions to their shop take in a more traditionally British direction with a contemporary collection from Charlotte Farmer which includes this Family Favourites tea towel.

The illustration on the tea towel celebrates the rich biscuit heritage of this country with a selection including a malted milk, a Tunnocks tea cake and a party ring. You're sure to find your personal favourite on there. Take a look at the rest of her collection – which also includes canvas bags – for more biscuits, as well as cakes, cutlery and snow globes.

This tea towel costs £9.50.

Ice Cream Van model kit from Finch and Fouracre

Ice cream kit

With the August bank holiday just a week away, here's a final taste of summer – an ice cream van kit from Finch and Fouracre

Finch and Fouracre are a Scottish based company who normally specialise in model of tenements houses and other architectural landmarks. Here they've turned their attention to a spot of summer whimsy, with a wonderfully retro ice cream van. The kits slot together so there's no need for glue and once that's done you can decorate the van with stickers, including the essential Mr Softie sign.

The kits have been made in limited numbers so, like the summer, make the most of it while it's still around. The kit costs £9.50.

Boxsall Urban Picnic Box

Urbanpicnic

There is probably just enough of summer left to justify buying the Urban Picnic Box from Boxsall.

Whilst most picnic carriers tend towards the shabby chic end of the retro spectrum, this has a tougher look, looking like 1980s stereo and being marketed at “graffiti artists, breakers, subway performers and inner city folks”. The other selling point is that the Urban Picnic Box, like all of Boxsall’s products, is environmentally-friendly, being made from post-consumer pulp with all of its accessories (trays, bowls, napkins, cups) made from compostable materials.

The Urban Picnic Box costs $35 (around £25) and can be bought directly from the Boxsall website.

Snowden Flood Battersea toile fabric plate

Toile plate

This isn't the first time we've featured the iconic outline of Battersea power station and I doubt it will be the last. It's not the first time we've featured a Snowden Flood take on it either. However, the design is given a new twist with Snowden Flood's Battersea toile fabric plate

Unlike her usual designs, which normally feature a plain, colourful outline of the building, here she's gone much further back in the history of textiles for inspiration – to the eighteenth century no less – and filled the outline with a pretty pastoral toile pattern. The contrast works really well and hints at something of the long history of the Thames and its activities.

It's an unusual piece that costs £35.
