Ramblas table linen range from Designers Guild

Ramblas-nakin-tablelinen-main

Think of Barcelona and you'll probably think hot and colourful. That pretty much sums up the new Barcelona collection from Designers Guild which includes the Ramblas table linen.

Reminiscent of some of the 50s designs from the V&A's reissued Horrockses range, the range uses a print of a retro style rose with a graphic black outline contrasting with the bright and vibrant colours used for the rose. All the linen is given a smart green and black printed border too.

Printed onto 100% cotton, the range includes napkins and place mats, as well as table cloths. If you like the design, it's also available on bed linen.

The napkins and placemats are priced at £30 for a set of four of each, while table sets start at £85.

Gillian Kyle Creamola Foam bag

Creamola_Foam

If you are Scottish and of a certain age, you are likely to recognise the design Gillian Kyle has used on her new bag, featuring the packaging for the Creamola Foam drink.

For those less in the know, Creamola foam was a soft drink manufactured, as it says on the bag, in the form of soluble crystals. It was made in Glasgow and sold from the fifties until 1998 when Nestlé ceased production of the drink. If you're eager to try some, there's apparently now an independent company who manufacture a similar drink but until you track them down, this bag is a tasty substitute. The charming packaging of the crystals has been foil printed in fuchsia onto a plain cotton tote.

If you've got a sweet tooth for all things Scottish, Kyle was the artist behind the Tunnock's Tea Cake tote bag we featured a little while back.

You can get the back for £17.50.

Daily menu 1950s designed paper napkins

Nilsson napkin

With the UK finally getting some good weather at the weekend, picnic season seems to be upon us once again. Add some retro flair to your picnic with these Daily Menu napkins

The paper napkins use a design by Marianne Nilsson from the 1950s and illustrate possible menus for various meals in the day. You may remember the homeware range we featured a little while back, featuring Nilsson's Herring design. These napkins are equally Scandinavian in its choice of flavours, with boiled egg and cheese offered as one of the breakfast options. You may not agree with her suggestions but the simple line drawings, combined with grey and bright lime and yellow colours, make the napkins look a pretty tasty option.

A pack of 20 costs £3.50.

Sivletto cards

Add some swing to a soiree with these Tiki drink recipe cards from Sivletto

The cards feature 24 recipes for creating delicious (or lethal) sounding cocktails in your own home, including the likes of the Denby Daiquiri which was created in the 1950s at the Mai-Kai hotel. If this isn't enough to entice you to indulge, they've also asked twelve artists, each with a suitably retro flavour, to illustrate the cards. The likes of Pekka Wizzz, Doug Horne and Lord Dunsby have all obliged meaning you'll come out of the deal with something nice to look at, as well as a likely hangover.

The original designs were on display at the Sivletto store in Stockholm but you can buy these reproductions for just £16 from their website.
