Digit cake moulds from Suck UK

Digitcakenew2010

You may remember Suck UK's Salt and Pepper 'Bots from last year. Well, they've come up with a new design also inspired by retro technology: digit cake moulds. There are seven moulds in a set and, when you put the shapes together, you can form 70s/80s digital style numbers or letters (though you could argue they're not too dissimilar to the shapes in the net and ball rug featured yesterday either).

And though they are retro in their look, the baking methods are more contemporary. The moulds are made from silicone which means they are microwaveable. I've yet to test how this affects the taste of the cake, but it does inspire some nice packaging in the shape of old-fashioned looking microwave.

A set costs £10.

‘Our dinners are a real eye opener’ 1940s design poster

Trainspotters poster

We've previously featured the reclaimed vintage fittings and posters from Trainspotters. They've now issued their own poster: this unusual 'Our dinners are a real eye opener' print

The design is reproduced from a 1940s original and, as it was obviously once from a cafe or restaurant, would look great in a kitchen.

It's been produced as a limited run and costs £80.

Op Art style glass storage jar from Sabichi

Sabichi storage

Many retro kitchens seem to focus on the 1950s diner look. So it's refreshing to see this Op Art style storage jar, produced by Sabichi

The black and white design of disappearing circles could have stepped straight out of the 60s. And, as well as being stylish, it's practical too. Made of glass, it holds 0.7 litres of whatever you'd like to put in it! If you like this design, they produce a slightly larger jar also with a black and white geometric design.

This jar costs a very reasonable £9.99.
