Original Arctic Roll returns to the supermarket shelves

Arcticroll

A 1970s favourite that went out of fashion in the 1990s is back on the market – Arctic Roll, courtesy of Bird’s Eye.

For the uninitiated, Arctic Roll is a tough one to describe – think vanilla ice cream wrapped in a layer of sponge cake, with some raspberry jam holding things together. And it comes out of the freezer, meaning just a spot of defrosting is required to hit optimum temperature!

The new version comes complete with a 70s-style box and indeed a new flavour – a chocolate variation (with chocolate ice cream, sponge and sauce) is also heading to the supermarket freezer. Look out for it from this month, priced around £1.99.

15588155_00_b

Dovetail Shop & Studio are a ceramics making duo from Kentucky. They have created this great Bicycle Serving Dish from porcelain.

The white square dish is decorated with pictures of retro bicycles, inspired by the designers’ own vintage bikes.  It is usefful for serving snacks but nice enough to just have on display.

It costs $28 and is available to buy from the USA Urban Outfitters.

Tetrice – Tetris ice cube maker now available to buy

Tetris_ice

Remember the Tetrice? It was  a concept ice cube maker by Martin Zampach, originally created as a concept with an eye on it going to retail. Well, the Tetrice ice maker is now available to buy.

What is it? Well, quite simply, this is a Tetris ice cube tray. Available in three colours, you get to make your own Tetris block ice cubes, great for cooling your drink, just as good for a quick game – as you race against the clock before the cubes melt.

You can buy a tray online, priced at just £4.88.

Vimto limited edition centenary bottle

Vimto

Whilst having a coffee in a local cafe today, we noticed these Vimto limited edition centenary bottles on the shelf. We picked one up from there, but you can also buy them online.

Vimto was born in Manchester in 1908 and the company has offered that original fruit-based cordial (made to a secret recipe) for 100 years. It’s now back in the original ‘crock’ (pot) bottle for a limited time – essentially, until the 6,000 bottles made run out.

Whether you love or hate the drink, this is a great piece of vintage design – and as they are numbered, it might be a shrewd investment too. The weighty bottles are actually made by Mawsons, who are selling them online – priced at £5.53.

“The Ladies” Plates

Ladiesplate

Designer Caroline Silfverling takes her inspiration from the past, and her love of old movies is very much apparent in “The Ladies” Plates.

The bone china plates feature black and white illustrations of glamorous pin-up girls amongst romantic roses. They will add a touch of glamour to your table and it almost seems a shame to cover the design with food.

They cost £120 for a set of four plates from Rockett St George.

Pop Art Marmite China

Popartmarmite

The classic Marmite jar has been given a pop art makeover in this range of crockery.

Mugs, tins, plates, egg cups and an espresso set all feature the famous jar but in a bright pop art palette. The plates, with the jar peeking up from the edge, are especially cool, but perhaps that won’t be enough to convince anyone who hates the yeast spread.

Prices start at £8 for a mug or 20cm plate, going up to £35 for the espresso set. See the whole collection online at Gifts to Go.
