Allsorts wallpaper

Allsorts wallpaper

This Allsorts wallpaper is an interesting find sure to sweeten up a kids room.

Bassets Liquorice Allsorts have a long and impressive heritage. Having been around since 1899, they're instantly recognisable. To add to this mix there's a bit of 1960s cultural history behind this wallpaper too: the design has been drawn by Robert Benson, the man behind Gonks. His original illustration has been scanned and printed onto the wallpaper to create a bright Pop effect worthy of the sixties.

It's available through I love design, priced at £350 for two rolls.

Naef Bauhaus Building Game by Alma Siedhoff-Buscher

Bauhaus_blocks

A genuine design from the Bauhaus school, with the Naef Bauhaus Building Game by Alma Siedhoff-Buscher now available to entertain and educate your children.

In truth, it's more likely to entertain than educate, but if you like the idea of your little one being an architect, it's the perfect place to start. During her training at Bauhaus in 1924, Alma Siedhoff-Buscher designed this building game, as part of the children’s room in the 'Am Horn' model house in Weimar.

Now it's available once more – a 22-piece set retails for £99.

Eames House Blocks from House Industries

Eames house

Start teaching your kids about good design from an early age with these Eames House Blocks from House Industries

It's a set of 36 basswood blocks meant to form Case Study House no. 8, otherwise known as the Eames House. Designed by Ray and Charles Eames and constructed in 1949 in Los Angeles, it is held up as an landmark of mid-century modern architecture. Each block – 20 making up the house, 16 for their separate studio – is printed with part of the house's geometric facade. The non-toxic materials used makes it suitable for kids but I'd be tempted to keep it pristine and well out of their reach.

An extra incentive to do that comes with the price. At $175, it's certainly not pocket money.

Nest High Chair

232_15-ZM-1

There is no need to compromise on still just because you have young children as the Nest High Chair proves. Available in white or orange, it will fit in nicely with a midcentury style dining room or kitchen.

The chair is suitable for children aged from six months up to six years old; for the youngest age range use it in the high position with the tray, then from 18 months remove the tray and from 3 years onwards use it a low position.

You can buy it online from Little Fashion Gallery, priced 429 Euros, which is probably more than you would usually spend on a kid’s high chair, but at least here you will get a good few years use from it.

Dick Bruna vintage story book bunting

Bruna bunting

You can't have failed to notice the huge amount of bunting bedecking shops and stalls and is on sale just about everywhere at the moment. Here's some more, but with an interesting twist: it's bunting using vintage book illustrations by Dick Bruna

It's the work of Etsy seller leJeune who has taken the original illustrations from a 1966 copy of Bruna's The Sailor and made them into the bunting. His bold illustrations are used on one side with the story on the other. Take a look at her shop from more bunting from other children's books, the perfect thing for a kid's room.

This bunting costs $22.

Loni kids bookcase from Habitat

Loni bookcase

Here's a piece of design for kids that would look pretty good adult sized too, the Loni bookcase from Habitat

Made with Oak veneer, the block like design of the piece gives it a retro look and makes it suitable for holding books as well as toys. And the best bit is that you can stand it the other way round: it works just as well stood vertically as it does horizontally. It measures 90cm across and 61cm across – that's unless you flip it the other way of course!

The bookcase costs £89.
