Cult 1970s Roobarb and Custard cartoon becomes book series

Roobarb

To be honest, I could have sworn Roobarb and Custard was originally a book, but apparently that wasn't the case. So the forthcoming book series of Roobarb and Custard by Mogzilla is a rather interesting first.

According to Mogzilla, the original scripts have been adapted into a series of colourful books, 32 pages for each one of When Custard was Grounded, When Roobarb found the Hieroglyphics and When there was a Pottery Party.

Which means they're ideal for kids, as well as the big kids who remember the Grange Caveley characters, or indeed, the Cadbury Roobarb and Custard chocolate bar, first time round. Heading your way in March 2010, each one will retail for £5.99.

The space hopper returns in 21st century-style at Habitat

Silver hopper
The space hopper remains the iconic toy of the 70s. It continually resurfaces in slightly modified versions – under other names and in other sizes. Now Habitat have given it a suitably 21st century makeover, which they've called 'Big Tig'.

The famous orange, and the kangaroo design is nowhere to be seen and instead the hopper is produced in a quite appealing space age shiny silver. The handles ensure it also retains its main attraction: being able to bounce around on it!

The hopper costs £12.

Lego City coat rack

Lego_rack

Designed for kids, certain to be loved by big kids – that's the Lego City coat rack.

Yes, a coat rack made of Lego, with a wooden back plate (plus plugs and screws) for easy mounting and of course, those three Lego minifigures that attach to it and keep your coats and hats in place – the Fire Fighter, Construction Worker and Police Officer for the record.

All of that for not a lot of money, just £14.65. But note it i good for ages 6+, so we can't be sure it will hold your average 30-year-old's winter overcoat.

Peagreen

This gorgeous print from Winchester based design group Peagreen is a lovely way to brighten up a child's bedroom without resorting to the predictable sort of kids artwork that they will grow out of very quickly.

There is a great choice of prints on the Peagreen site, and you can see that these guys are commercial designers from the quality of the work.

Papillon is a limited edition of 25 and the style of illustration wouldn't look out of place in a picture book from the 70's. The print is 40 x 50cm and priced at £45.

Order from Peagreen before Friday for delivery before Christmas.
