Barbie Ghost Chairs

 Phillippe Starck’s Louis Ghost Chair for Kartell pretty much became an instant classic, but it was only launched in 2003. So that can hardly claim to be retro, but here it is in a limited edition version to celebrate the birthday of another icon. This is the 50th anniversary Barbie Ghost Chair.

As you would expect from anything Barbie related, the chair’s transparent finish is in pink, and it has a hand-illustrated Barbie image and logo. The chair’s appeal will undoubtedly be limited to collectors, but it does also come in the smaller child’s version, the Lou Lou Ghost Chair, which is a great option for design-conscious parents. T

he Lou Lou chair costs €75.60 (around £67 but VAT and shipping need to be added). The adult version costs just over €197 (around £180). They can be bought online at Questo Design.

Villa Julia by Magis – mid-century cardboard house for your kids

Forget the old wendy house, if you want your kids' first home to come with added cool, invest in the Villa Julia by Magis.

It's a cardboard house for little people, ideally kids, but if you happen to be under just over 4ft tall, it's good for you too. For your money, you get a cardboard house complete with windows and opening door, not to mention a mid-century style style chimney and a set of stickers for a bit of authenticity.

Surely one of the best things about having kids is that you can dress them in things that say more about the parents than the child (at least until they are old enough to have opinions of their own). One suitable candidate for is this Chopper Kids T-Shirt. It features that icon of the seventies, the chopper bike, a bike that might mean nothing to the child but will no doubt bring back strong memories for their mum and dad. 

Made from organic cotton by a company called Green Eyed Monster, there is a lovely old look to the print (created using non-toxic paints) that is suitable for the nostalgic subject. The T-Shirt costs £17.50 and is suitable for one to ten-year-olds.

Pastense replica 1936 Sky King Trike

This replica of the 1936 Sky King Tricycle produced by Pastense offers a stylish way for your little ones to get around. It's made from steel with rubber tyres and handle grips and is painted using lead free paint (so probably a lot more child friendly than the original trike). Standing at 66cm high, it's recommended for three to six year olds. 

The trike costs £199 which may seem quite a lot, but the original models go for over £2000, so it may be a worthwhile investment, that is if it doesn't get scuffed from all the use first.

Lego MP3 player by Digital Blue

We featured the camera some time back, but it's now been joined by the Lego MP3 player by Digital Blue – and it's certain to make a real impact on the daily commute.

Not the most feature-packed player you'll encounter, but all the basics are here – 2GB of storage, a rechargeable battery, MP3/WMA playback, USB connectivity and earphones. We're not sure if the latter will be shaped like mini bricks – we can only hope.

Should be cheap too, around £27 when it hits the shelves this summer in the two colour options above.

Retro Robot Duvet Set

Retro robots are a perennial favourite here at Retro To Go, and this Retro Robot Duvet Set joins the lists of items featuring the mechanical creations.

The bedlinen set consists of a single duvet cover and a housewife pillowcase, made from a polyester and cotton mix. The pattern is made up of robots in blue, orange, lime and black against a cream background. It costs just £15.
