Alga introduces retro science projects for kids

Alga

We all had things like chemistry sets as kids, but Swedish toy firm Alga has gone one step further, offering up some cool retro gadgets to create as part of its Alga Science range.

Just like that chemistry set, the Alga Science range is designed to stimulate young minds about science, but also throws in a few lessons about the environment and a finished product, which is where the fun really starts.

You see, it offers things like the retro-styled solar radio above and a gramophone-style music player, along with more mundane things like a wind turbine and weather lab. Before you rush to the shops, we have some bad news – this looks to be Sweden-only so far. And we can’t even find a price for mail order for the UK. If you really want one, maybe drop the company an email for details of buying.

Retro Tree Print Wallpaper

Ferm_dotty_220

This retro patterned wallpaper by Scandinavian company Ferm Living has been given the name “Dotty”, but rather than dots, the print is made up of little trees. The trees are yellow and brown and a very much in the Scandinavian folk art style.

It is being marketed as wallpaper for a child’s room, but used sparingly it could work in an adult’s room too. If you like the print but not as wallpaper, there is a cushion in the same pattern also available.

The wallpaper costs just over £50 per roll and is available from the Scandinavian Design Center.  The cushion costs just over £30.

Violetta Textiles Children’s Clothes

Violettadresses

You may already be aware of the website Volksfaden, which sells a huge selection of fabrics, including designs by Alexander Henry and Amy Butler. Volksfaden has recently begun a collaboration with Violetta Textiles to produce a range of children’s clothing in fabrics taken from the Volksfaden collection.

The range mainly consists of dresses, based on the traditional German dirndl dress. Pictured on the left is the “Olive” dress made from a Michael Miller fabric by the name of “Far Out Florals”, trimmed with Erin McMorris’ “Blossoms” fabric. On the right, is “Hadley” which is made from the Marrimekko-like “Poppies” fabric by Wyndams.

The dresses are available in a variety of sizes, all currently on offer at Euro 39,50. There are also shirts for boys and tunic pant suits for girls. View the whole collection on the Volksfaden website.

My Own Morph – re-live your childhood

Morph

Remember Morph? The plasticine man wit the big eyes who managed to graduate from being Tony Hart’s sidekick to grabbing his own TV show in the 80s. And over 30 years on since his first TV appearance, Morph is back as My Own Morph.

Yes, as the name suggests, this is your very own Morph – but you have to make him from the supplied blocks of plasticine, an instruction book and accessories (eyes cricket bat, wizard’s hat, skateboard, beard and comic book). And once you’ve made Morph, you can sit back and compare him to the real thing – the kit also features a DVD with 15 classic TV episodes.

Sounds like a wet weekend covered – and yours for £10.95.
