Limited edition Dennis the Menace Go-Kart

Dennis_kart

The Children’s Furniture Company has teamed up with The Beano to celebrate the comic’s 70th anniversary with the limited edition Dennis the Menace Go-Kart.

Just 70 of these available (one for each year), built in the same style as the cartoon kart, but with a build that’s suited to actual use. Other nice touches include a ‘MENACE 1’ number plate, Beano goody bag and an eco-friendly mechanism, otherwise known as gravity (so make sure you live near a hill).

You can buy one from this month via the Children’s Furniture Company website, priced at £195.

Lumi – 60s-style cotton dolls

Lumi

We love the Lumi dolls – the hard part is actually finding them!

The dolls are all limited editions, handmade and standing around 45cm high, each one made of 100 per cent cotton with a polyester filling and with detailing (including individual fashions) made from linen, wool and vintage fabric.

Definitely one for the collectors, I would guess a few are floating around eBay as very few seem to be available to buy online right now, although Le Train Fantome still has stock of Lumi #44. But be quick, there’s only two of these – priced at £51 each. Check out the sold designs on the same site while you’re there, if we find more for sale, we’ll let you know.

Vitra Eames Elephant returns – in affordable polypropylene

Vitra_elephant

Last year saw the release of the Eames Plywood Elephant from Vitra, which was designed in 1945, but never actually commercially issued. Just 1,000 were issued in 2007, all selling (and selling out) for £1,000. If you missed out on that, there’s a new Vitra Eames Elephant on the market for 2008 – and it’s cheaper.

The new version uses polypropylene instead of plywood, but keeps the same shape and dimensions. It’s ideal for a kids bedroom (it was originally intended as a toy) or as an eye-catching piece of home design in any room. And as it’s now made of plastic, you can even use it in the garden.

Sized at 76cm x 36cm (W) x 41cm (H) and in five colours, you can pre-order the new version now (for September delivery) for £139.95.

Liquorice Allsorts House

101041

Bassetts Liquorice Allsorts have been around since 1899 and are fondly remembered from many a childhood. In these days of worries about healthy eating and overweight children, here is a healthier way to introduce the sweets to a new generation – the Liquorice Allsorts House.

The set contains 25 individual soft pieces that look just like the sweets for children to use to build a house. Of course, the pieces aren’t made from sugary treats, but from foamed filled soft touch vinyl.

At just under £500, it costs considerably more than a quarter of your favourite sweets, but will last longer. It is available to buy from the Urchins website.

Kristian Vedel Child’s Chair – a 1950s classic reissued

Vedel

Bizarrely, we flagged this up as a vintage find some months back, but we have just discovered that the Kristian Vedel Child’s Chair has been reissued as part of the Architect Made series.

Produced around 1955 in Denmark, it’s a stylish and simple mid-century design that still works today. The frame is semi-circular bent plywood, with slats to support adjustable pieces of laminated plywood, held in place by tension. And when your child grows, just move up a slot.

Available online, you can pick up the chair for £295.
