Frederic Collette A table and chairs – art deco design for kids

Achair

The rooms that are often ignored when it comes to design are the children’s bedrooms. Which is a shame when there is cool design likes the Frederic Collette A table and chairs around.

Designed by Collette and produced by Collect Furniture, the A table and chairs are intended to be functional furniture for children, but with an art deco look that’s certain to appeal to design-conscious parents. Practical too – the ‘A’ shape increases stability, preventing it from being tilted or tipped over, with the table featuring six drawers and room for two children to work at (either side) and of course, built to a perfect height for the stackable chairs (which also feature a drawer).

The table retails for £205, with the chairs retailing at £105 each.

Mini Me – kids’ retro fashion colouring book

Minime

No matter what the generation, all kids love a colouring book – and the Mini Me colouring book is a very cool one for you or your children to own.

It’s an A5 book featuring 17 self-portrait line drawings by selected artists, each wearing their favourite outfit from when they were a child. The artists in question include Daisy de Villeneuve, Mark Pawson, Danielle Proud (House Proud, Hip Craft), Adrian Johnson, Rachel Ortas, Hannah Dyson (The Idler), Jake, Nervous Stephen and Austin of New & Zeel, all accompanied by descriptions of the outfits on display. And as a bonus, there’s a cut-out necklace by cult jewellrey designers Tatty Devine.

The book was produced to tie in with Mini Me, The birth of kids’ fashion in the Boutique Era Exhibition at Pollock’s Toy Museum. Sadly, that’s no longer showing, but you can still pick up the book for £5.

Want to make your kid your coolest child on the block? You should get them kitted out in these Waterloo retro rock and film t-shirts for kids.

We have featured Waterloo before and these mini-versions of the company’s classic shirts are every bit as good as the big ones, including designs from the likes of Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin, along with Willy Wonka, a ‘mod’ target and A Clockwork Orange, all available for kids aged from two to six.

Typical is this Rolling Stones t-shirt, based on a sleeve from a long-forgotten compilation album and featuring the iconic ‘tongue’ design. You can pick this (and the others) up for $24.95, which is around £13. And they ship worldwide.

1970s Elephant Money Box

Money_white Money boxes are a good way to encourage children to save or for adults to collect up all that loose change that accumulates. This sweet Elephant Money Box was originally commissioned by a Swedish bank back in the 1970s.

It is made from plastic rather than china but it still looks pretty good. And the elephant design makes a nice change from the usual pig.

Priced just £5, it will leave you with plenty of money leftover to deposit in it. Details of how to buy one can be found on the Family Tree Shop website.

Children’s Car Lights

CarlightsPossibly VW Beetles, possibly Citroens, maybe even Skodas, the set of Children’s Car Lights is made up of colourful retro cars.

Designed for all year round use, probably in a boy’s bedroom, they could also be put to good use during this festive period as Christmas tree lights.

They cost just under £19 for a string of ten cars, from Vinegar Hill.
