Orange Deco Clutch from River Island

Decoclutch

We might be living in the generation of all things Retro, but even in the 20th century designers were looking backwards for inspiration. This Orange Deco Clutch from River Island is a perfect example of when two eras meet well, drawing design ideas from both the 20s and the 70s at once.

The burnt orange shade and large clutch design of the bag have a simple but instant seventies feel, providing a great basis for the unusual use of deco design on top. The contrasting silver allows the structural design of the metallic deco detailing to pop.

It's available from River Island now for £25.

Chase and Wonder Royal Festival Hall print

Chase and wonder

The print by Chase and Wonder celebrates some of the special quirks of the Royal Festival Hall

If the name Chase and Wonder sounds familiar, they're the duo behind the Lady's and Gentleman's A To Zs we featured a little while back which used detailed, retro styled illustrations to decorate each letter of the alphabet. This print uses the same principle but bases its illustration on the name of the building. For example, you get Abram Games's Festival of Britain logo for A, the Festival being the reason the Hall was built in 1951, while the O is illustrated by the Royal Festival Hall's 7866 pipe organ.

A2-sized, and limited to 100 copies, the print costs £100.

Bridge table designed by Matthew Hilton from Heal’s

Bridge table
The Matthew Hilton-designed Bridge table is another great design from the Heal's Scandinavian season.

Just a look at the table reveals its mid-century inspired influences, with its elegant tapering legs, and oak or walnut veneer finish. There's a practical twist to this design too: it's able to extend in size. Available in two sizes, the smaller table extends from 110cm up to 160cm, while the larger table is 260cm when extended.

While the table is able to grow or shrink in size, there's no escaping the price you'll be paying for this classic design: the smaller table costs £1095, while the larger version costs £1595.

Rock UK Print

Zoom_ROCK_UK
Another print for your consideration, this time one with a musical theme. The Rock UK Print by Nick Prints celebrates over 50 years of British music.

The typographic print charts some of the key bands in the main movements of music from the early days of rock n roll through prog, punk and Brit Pop up to present day. The bands are written in a circle like vinyl record, with the older bands towards the centre. The writing is colour-coded according to genre with a key provided in the centre, where the record label would normally be. As a neat finishing touch, the print is the right size to fit in those LP frames.

It costs £35 from Nick Prints via Not on the High Street.

English Red Telephone Box Print by Graphic Nothing

RedTelephoneBoxLarge-309x437
For this English Red Telephone Box Print, designer Graphic Nothing moves away from their previous obsessions with famous artwork, album covers and films.

It is apparently part of the “objet d'street furniture” series, although I haven’t seen any of the others. The traditional and now rarely seen telephone box is recreated in a simple graphic style. It is available in three sizes; A3 for £17.50, A2 for £26.50 or A1 for £36.50.
