Market Publique

Adele simpson

Market Publique launched its market place earlier this year, offering an alternative to Ebay and Etsy for vintage sellers. The site is still young and has lots of potential to expand but, although there are some quite interesting things up there, at the moment there seems to be a bit of an 80's and 90's bias as well as a shocking lack of menswear.

The dress featured is one of the more expensive items on the site, a silk and hand finished dress by American designer Adele Simpson dating from the Forties or Fifties. Market Publique offers the opportunity for sellers to put their clothing up for bids, or with a straight price, or both. This dress is selling for $348, the dollar price reflecting that the site is based out of Brooklyn, New York.

Ben Hall Ray Gun desk pen for Acme Studios

Ben_pen

A cool design that's also certain to be a talking point too – the Ben Hall Ray Gun desk pen for Acme Studios.

Yes, as you might have worked out, this is a usable bit of design – a pen for your desk, an essential for anyone. But it also doubles up as a stylish object, with looks reminiscent of a weapon from a vintage sci-fi movie. Think Flash Gordon or something equally cheesy.

If you want one, you can pick one up online, priced at £115.

Rose and Grey mid-century style dining table and chairs

Rose_50s

You don't have to hunt round vintage sellers and auction houses for mid-century gems, you can find new designs with the same vintage looks – like this Rose and Grey mid-century style dining table and chairs.

Very much in a 1950s style, the table and chairs are made of oak and have the period slants and curves, especially the chairs, which could well pass as Danish  designer originals.

Unfortunately modern doesn't mean cheap, although prices don't break the bank. The table retails for £485, with the chair selling for £120 each.

Bettie Flare Skirt from Bettie Page Clothing

Bettie skirt

Classic circle style flared skirts are one of the most recognisably fifties items in retro fashion. Perfect for a rockabilly look, this one from Bettie Page Clothing is exaggerated and whimsical.

The Bettie Flare Skirt features a classic shape, with a high waistband, circular flare and lots of body. The added Bettie Page cartoon logo makes this a really cutesy piece, without appearing too much like a costume. In a bright but matt shade of red and made from a stretch bengaline fabric, it's an archetypal piece of retro reproduction.
