Hans Wegner mid-century CH008 low table

Wegner008

I was going to describe this as an occasional table – but would you really use the Hans Wegner CH008 low table occasionally?

So let's call it a low table, a cocktail table or a coffee table. No matter what you use it for, this 1954 mid-century classic is certainly a timeless piece of design, made of solid wood (ash, oak or walnut) with three angles legs and a choice of small, medium or large surface areas.

Over 50 years old and still likely to be sharp in another 50. Yours from just over £1,000.

Le Corbusier greetings cards by Stefi Orazi

Corbusier_cards

Remember the super cool Modernist Christmas cards? Well, designer Stefi Orazi is back with something equally cool and very topical – the Le Corbusier greetings cards.

Topical because they coincide with the Le Corbusier exhibition and film season at the Barbican and no doubt, a resurgence of interest in all things modernist.

For your money, you get a pack of six illustrated cards in A6 size with envelopes, each with a different piece of the great man's architecture on the front. The coolest cards you'll send (or receive) this year, a pack costs £12.

American Apparel Unisex Corduroy jacket

American apparel

The classic denim jacket shape has gone in and out of style since the 1950s took workwear into the fashion crowd. Its corduroy counterpart has been less prominent, and still evokes a seventies style ethic as a result.

This American Apparel version is tailored to the classic shape, making it unisex. Available in both Merlot and Almost Black, the colour palettes fit well with the seventies style of the fabric. Perfect for versatility, these six button coats have both quality and style. £77 from American Apparel UK.

Cacharel by Eley Kishimoto retro dresses

Cacherel

Finding everyday dresses from your favourite vintage period is becoming increasingly difficult. Fashion designers may continue to take inspiration from the 20th century, but few are producing truly retro daywear.

These dresses from Eley Kishimoto's Cacharel collection are great reproductions of 1960s daywear. With whimsical prints and pretty cuts, they're ideal for spring and summer daytimes.

The dresses costs £250 and £260 from left to right, and are both available to buy online from ASOS.

Orgone Chair by Marc Newson

Imgzoom-Orgone-Artificial-refjb0501-001

The Orgone Chair was designed by Marc Newson in 1983, which at 26 years old does just about qualify it as retro.

The original limited set was made from aluminium, but plastic versions soon followed for the mass market. Whilst lacking the exclusivity of the original, the plastic versions have a certain space-age charm, particularly in the white pictured here.

Made in Design are selling the plastic versions (which they describe as “affordable”) in black or white, priced at £634.

Recycled Glasses

IMG_0107_edited

Harlands Organic Furnishings specialise in eco friendly fabric and upholstery, but they also sell some other interesting products. Browsing their website, I was particularly taken with these Recycled Glasses.

Available in either green or plum, both colours have an attractive smoky look., which probably has something to do with them being made from recycled glass, but looks good too. Choose from wine glasses or tumblers, priced £10 and £8 respectively.
