Ilmari Tapiovaara mid-century Mademoiselle rocking chair

Madem

It's been reissued as a standard chair too, but we prefer the Ilmari Tapiovaara Mademoiselle rocking chair.

A Finnish design classic from 1956, the Mademoiselle catches the eyes most obviously from that hugely extended back, certain to offer plenty of support for eve the longest back. But once you're in it, you'll be more interested in the rockers on the bottom, perfect for kicking back on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

Made of solid birch and available in various colours, you can pick one up for 890 Euros.

Lesbo 1960s table lamp by Angelo Mangiarotti

Lesbo

No laughing at the back, the Lesbo table lamp by Angelo Mangiarotti is a very serious and very cool piece of 1960s design.

Designed for (and reissued by) Artemide back in 1967, it has a body and diffuser made from blown smoked Murano glass, with a base in polished metal, combining to produce a lamp that positively glows.

Your for £593 – and that doesn't include the required incandescent opal bulb.

British New Wave Classics reissued on DVD and Blu-ray

New_wave

Two British New Wave classics are re-issued on DVD and released on Blu-ray in new high definition transfers by the BFI on 23rd March 2009 – Saturday Night and Sunday Morning and The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner.

Saturday Night and Sunday Morning (1960), stars Albert Finney, Shirley Anne Field and Rachel Roberts. Poul Kjaerholm 1960s PK20 easy chair

Pk20

Best seen from the side, the Poul Kjaerholm PK20 is a super-slim and super-stylish easy chair.

Reissued by Fritz Hansen, the PK20 is another example of that stylish simplicity, with a frame of satin-brushed stainless steel and a seat of either wicker, classic leather or natural leather, all finished off with a cushion to support your head.

Unfortunately, this 1968 design doesn't come with a price as stripped down as the seat – prices start at just over £4,000.
