“The Universe of Keith Haring” at ICA, London

Keithharingfilm

Keith Haring’s art adorns a huge array of products, many of which we’ve featured here before, however, beyond his anti-elitist ethos, I for one know hardly anything about the artist. That could change with the ICA’s screening of “The Universe of Keith Haring”.

The documentary directed by Chistina Clausen features archive footage and interviews with many of his contemporaries and admirers including Grace Jones, Madonna, Yoko Ono, David LaChapelle and Andy Warhol.

It is showing on 28 February at 8.30 at the ICA. For further details and bookings visit the ICA website.

Prod_14199

Drying dishes is never interesting, but perhaps it could be improved for fans of the architecture in general and the Modern Movement in particular with this tea towel depicting Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s Buildings.

It features seven of his most famous buildings in Glasgow including the Willow Tea Rooms, The Glasgow School of Art and The Lighthouse.

It costs £6.20 and is available to buy from one of the very buildings it shows, The Lighthouse.

Urban Outfitters Open Back Bow Dress

Bow back dress

Taking the ingredients of a vintage dress and mixing them with the decidedly modern can be a minefield, but when the designers pull it off the results can be effortless. This Open Back Bow Dress from Urban Outfitters takes the high glamour of the 1940s and 50s and makes it wearable now.

The basic, figurehugging shape of the dress speaks of retro glamour, with the oversized bow creating a real Hollywood feel. Combined with an open back, and shorter hem, this dress has been given a youthful touch that works well. Keeping the colour palette plain, and the dress made from a sturdy knit, it's shapely and chic without overstating the point.

Available at Urban Outfitters UK, this costs £55.

Jukebox Hero coin purse

Jukebox hero

For vinyl junkies awaiting next pay day for that once in a lifetime 45, check out this great little coin purse. While many items branded with the iconic image of records look a bit cheesy, this is a pretty cool little item that does justice to the details.

The Jukebox Hero purse remembers the little things like the inner, and has a stylish label to boot. The witty track name Pocket Change "Money To Burn" is my favourite part. Made of soft embossed vinyl, this looks the part and will last more than a few visits to the jukebox or the bar.

It's available online from Fred Flare for just $14.

Red Heart peeptoe court shoes by Fornarina

91J385OLIL

Red shoes may have lost some of the risk taking behaviour they were once associated with, but they still make a real statement. This pair of shined leather peep toes by Fornarina are nothing if not attention grabbing, and for all the right reasons.

With a cutesy, pin up feel about them, they're a refreshingly unique pair. The peep toe heart design, coupled with the sleek curved overlap at the heel give this some vamp attitude. The shade and quality of the leather, too, is just right to avoid tackiness.

They're available online from Oli for £110.
