Next Stretch Pencil Skirt

Next skirt

Pencil skirts have long been a classic in workwear, but in the past year they've gone beyond being the sole property of offices and retro lovers. Next's casualwear range Riviera Style features this Stretch Pencil Skirt, which makes some vintage inspired style all the more affordable.

In a safari-inspired stone colour, the high waist and button details are what really makes this skirt. With a little military inspiration, and an extreme, hip emphasising shape, it's perfect for a wearable take on fifties pin-up inspiration.

It's new in at Next for £35.

The Vintage Wedding List

C45

If you are getting married and want something more interesting than the usual toaster and towels, then the Vintage Wedding List is worth a look.

Created by Camilla Cobham and Henry Alban Davies, the website contains a selection of gifts they have handpicked from the best of the antiques market. There is a wide choice of gifts to suit a range of budgets. The ceramics selection is particularly good, and includes the French food dish (pictured here) from the 1920s, which costs £45.

You can have your whole wedding list at the site or you can pick out a few things you like. In fact, you don’t even have to be getting married at all, you can buy items for yourself too. For more information visit The Vintage Wedding List website.

Orla Kiely Home Collection for Target

Targetorla

Good news for readers in the USA (or anyone who will be over there in February). Orla Kiely has created a home décor collection for the American retail giant, Target.

There is a huge selection of products including mugs, glasses, plates, aprons, laundry bags, storage boxes and cushions, decorated with the distinctive Pears and Flower patterns. The items are unmistakably Orla Kiely, but this being a collaboration with Target, the prices are a lot lower than you’d normally buy for her designs. Prices range from $2.49 for a small tumbler up to £21.99 for a tablecloth. The canister pictured costs $17.99 and the tumbler is $3.49.

The collection goes on sale from 1 February in Target stores with a limited selection available online. A preview of the collection is available on the Target website now.

R2D2 water bottle

R2d2_water

Just when you thought the merchandising of Star Wars was totally exhausted, another item pops into view – the R2D2 water bottle.

What is it? Well, as you can see, it's a water bottle housed in the shape if everyone's favourite 70s sci-fi droid. Just flip off the top, have a drink, then sling it back over your shoulder, courtesy of the attached strap.

Japan only (as you might have guessed), but available imported out of that particular country for the equivalent of £27.

Diadora Bjorn Borg Elite trainers in black and white

Borg_black

Not the first time we have featured the Diadora Bjorn Borg Elite trainers, but we love this new black and white colour variation.

Still the same shoe – based on the footwear worn by Bjorn Borg during his glory years of the late 70s and early 80s (and commercially sold from 1981), they offer up a leather upper in 'off white' with black detailing, along with the brand name on the tongue, heel and moulded into the white outer sole.

You can pick up a pair online, priced at £55.

Nymphenburg coat stand by Otto Blümel

Nymphen

Not just retro, but positively antique – yet the Nymphenburg coat stand by Otto Blümel still looks  like a stylish modern design.

An early modernist gem, the Nymphenburg coat stand is amazingly over 100 years old, designed by Blümel back in 1908. And now it's back on the market, courtesy of ClassiCon.

In terms of technical details, what you see is what you get, with plenty of hooks for your hats and coats, all from a stand made of nickel-plated brass. You can pick one up for around £1,600.
