Emory Douglas limited edition Black Panther signed prints

Emory

For the uninitiated, Emory Douglas was an active member of the Black Panther Party, responsible for the design of the movement as ‘Revolutionary Artist’, then Minister of Culture. And his work is currently being celebrated with an exhibition at Manchester’s Urbis – Emory Douglas and The Art of Revolution.

The exhibition highlights Douglas’ work for the party, including posters, cartoons and campaign pamphlets – and if you head down to the Urbis store, you can pick up prints of the man’s work, along with some rather cool Black Panther t-shirts and tote bags (sadly not available to buy online). More information on the Urbis exhibition can be found here.

Marks and Spencer Block Print Dress

Block_print_dress

Block prints might be one of the most obvious ways to get some 60s mod style, but when they’re one right there’s nothing more striking. This Marks and Spencer linen dress is a bit of a grown up version of a very moddish classic.

The silhouette is simple and square for a sixties feel, while the slightly longer hemline makes it much more suitable for frequent wear, whatever your age. The use of monochrome colours in the print makes this a bold, strikingly modernist item that needs no accessory.

It’s at Marks and Spencer now for £29.50.

Cassina Lebeau space age dining table

Lebeau

It screams the early 1970s, but the Cassina Lebeau dining table is actually a fairly modern design.

The work of Patrick Jouin, the table could slip effortlessly onto the set of Space 1999 or any number of vintage sci-fi flicks. And if you’re after that kind of look (but want an alternative to Tulip Table), this could be worth a look. The base is made of stainless steel, with a podium of grey or white plastic supporting a transparent glass top.

Fairly substantial in size with a diameter of 1400mm and indeed substantial in size. Even in the Nest sale, this is priced from £3,456.

“Retro Balls” Canvas

Beachballsprint

DIY store B&Q wouldn’t be the first place I’d book for art and it is probably a bit of a stretch to refer to the prints they sell as art. But if you want something inexpensive to adorn your walls, the “Retro Balls” Canvas has a certain charm.

Measuring 60cm by 60cm, the black & white print has been reproduced on canvas. The women in the picture look as if they are from the 1950s and the slogan on their t-shirt reads “St Petersburg Charm School”.

It costs just under £20 and can be bought in store. Visit the B&Q website to take a closer look and for details of your nearest store.
