The Dashboard Clock is inspired by the dashboards of classic cars from the 1950s.

Set in a retro cream surround, the clock face is where you would find the speedometer and for added authenticity there are also a barometer and thermometer. Measuring 20cm wide 10.2cm high and 5cm deep it could be used in the office or kitchen.

It costs £25 and is available to buy from Me and My Car via Not on the High Street.

ASOS High Waist Braces shorts

Asos_shorts

Matelot style, or button front shorts have become a definite staple in mainstream fashion, but when done right they’re a great casual fifties style choice. These high waist shorts with braces are from ASOS and are a really retro version.

The high waist is the key, without looking unnatural, and the rolled leg shorts give a great fifties silhouette. The added braces provide a cheesecake model style look that’s ideal for a rockabilly inspired outfit.

They’re new in at ASOS for £24.47.

Margaret Howell reissues classic 1950s Ernest Race Heron Chair

Race_heron

Apologies for the size of image, this is the best we can do right now of the Ernest Race Heron Chair, reissued with a modern twist by Margaret Howell.

The seat itself is a post-war British classic from 1955, made at a time when wood was in short supply, hence, the steel frame. The new version is faithful to the original (which hasn’t been in production since 1961), with Margaret Howell adding some modern-day touches to the upholstery and finish, but keeping that low-slung shape, which is perfect for relaxing after a hard day at work.

The chair and matching stool should be available in the coming weeks, but as yet, no price has been confirmed. We’ll keep you posted.

Converse 100th anniversary shoes in a box

Converse1

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Converse All Star basketball shoes, the company has produced a very special limited edition – these Converse 100th anniversary shoes in a box.

The shoe itself has been specially made for the anniversary, sold in a box that’s shaped as a pile of books. Indeed, the shoes also come with a book that covers the history of the brand, as well as featuring 100 of today’s biggest stars, alongside 100 people inspired by them.

To be honest, it all sounds a bit ‘arty’ for a street shoe, but there’s no denying these will be a future collectable. Available in a choice of three colours and two sizes only, no price is available as yet. See over for an image of the box.

George Nelson Tripod desk clock

Tripod

We’ve featured many George Nelson clocks in the past, but we haven’t featured my personal favourite – the George Nelson Tripod desk clock. In fact, I love this so much, I own one.

The Tripod isn’t your average Nelson clock, this 1947 model is slightly more subdued, but every bit as stylish as anything else in the range. It’s made of brass, with an acrylic domed cover and minimalist dots for the numbers, all stood on that ‘tripod’ base.

Perfect for either a desk or a living room, it’s also in the sale at Utility, priced at £164.90.

Christian Louboutin Peplum T-bar sandals on sale

Louboutin_peplum

Christian Louboutin‘s high heels have become one of the most coveted luxury items in the past few years, but for retro lovers the choice among his well crafted shoes is somewhat limited. Beyond the (admittedly fantastic) basics, many of his designs are garishly modern. These Peplum shoes, however, are anything but.

Clearly inspired by 20s and 30s style, the design uses art deco motifs and lines on both the peplum design on the vamp, and in the strap shapes. The result is an eye-grabbing instant classic that doesn’t fall foul of fashion’s ticking clock.

They’re available online in the Net-a-Porter sale now for £315.
