Original Freestyler – a BMX classic updated

Freestyler

Not a replica, the Original Freestyler is an update of the original 1970s BMX bike ridden by BMX legend Bob Haro.

The new version of the 1978 cult classic features a throwback Haro Freestyle Division frame, Skyway Tuff Wheels with Haro MS4 tyres, tubular 4130 three-piece cranks, 44/16 gearing with ACS Mainline freewheel and as befits a limited edition, chrome aplenty.

If you’re into your BMX, all of that will no doubt mean something to you. if it doesn’t let’s just say it’s a bike that’s both fun to ride and cool to be seen with. The Original Freestyler sells for around the $545 (£355) mark.

Fräuleinwunder magazine – 50s-style cool

Frau_mag

Whilst browsing Richard Karstrom’s Crossed Combs blog, the cover of Fräuleinwunder magazine caught my eye. And it looks well worth picking up.

Rooted very much in 1950s cool, Fräuleinwunder is a German magazine, but printed in English on heavy matte paper. Issue two is available now, with content including a retro shopping and barhopping guide of Berlin, a guide to doing your hair in the perfect pin-up style, the art of Candy Cane, Burlesque Couture, Tura Satana, a feature on teen delinquent movies, some crafting tips, an interview punk band The White Barons and much more over the 46 pages.

Obviously not an easy magazine to find, but the ever-excellent Sivletto stocks it and ships worldwide, priced at £6 or $9.

Casio Retro Dial and Digital Watch

Casio_watch

Link bracelet strap watches often seem like they’ve been around as long as most of us, but usually they’re confined to the wrists of older gents. Casio are jumping on the retro bandwagon with a relaunch of the style for men and women with this Retro Dial and Digital version.

Combining both an analogue dial and a digital readout, the design still stays sleek and traditional. With a gold look finish over brushed steel, this is sturdy without costing an absolutely fortune too.

It’s available online from ASOS for just £28.39, with free warranty.

Dennis Morris Timeless Collection for Urban Outfitters

Dennis_morris

Band t-shirts are ten a penny (almost) on the high street these days, especially those emblazoned with album covers and logos that were once the property of rickety stands outside gigs. If you’re looking for something more original, check out the Dennis Morris Timeless Collection.

Exclusive to Urban Outfitters, the t-shirts feature original photography by Morris of Marianne Faithful (left), Sid and Nancy (right) and Patti Smith among others. The result is a much more arty way to show your adoration for some of our more handsome icons.

Suck UK authentic LP Divider Set

Lp_divider

If you’ve spent much of your life thumbing through racks of dusty old vinyl, you’ll be familiar with something like this Suck UK LP Divider Set.

Designed for authenticity, the set offers an alphabet of lettered cardboard (plus a few extras), complete with the odd bit of sticky tape to hold the letters in place. And to double the use, there’s also a nice genre breakdown on the reverse (see the site for an image), should you wish to separate your psychedelia from your krautrock – all done in random fonts obviously.

You could say it’s great design or even a good example of recycling. Or you could say it’s a pile of old rubbish. Either way, the set should be available to buy in the new year for an as-yet undisclosed price.
