American Retro Cream Spotted Dress

American_retro

Despite their name, American Retro are a clothing company whose designs rarely show off much in the way of retro looks. Favouring basics and casualwear, it’s a delight to see them pull off a more impressive dress with aplomb.

This Spotted Dress is a knitted woolen item that’s perfect for Winter, and a great way to wear wool for eveningwear. The clean, striking cream shade really makes the oversized spots pop out. The overall look gives a cute, chic sixties look that’s youthful and still sleek.

Structured art deco designs aren’t easy to carry off in wearable day clothing, but jewellery is a quick, easy and effective way to get 1920s style that avoids looking like a costume.

These Delaila Fan earrings available at ASOS are instantly recognisable as deco inspired, and could easily pass as a wonderful vintage find. The inverted pear-shaped stud is sleek and simple, while the fan embellishment is delicate enough to carry off the oversized look.

Sofa Workshop’s Terence Conran-designed mid-century Steinbeck armchair

Steinbeck

A few weeks back, we featured the Miss Behaving armchair from Sofa Workshop. And now the company has another mid-century-styled gem on the shopfloor – the Steinbeck armchair.

A really stylish seat from Sir Terence Conran, probably best described as a wing chair, that high back perfect for naps and indeed keeping the cold off your neck. Aside from that, it has those ‘period’ wooden supports (available in different shades) and an upholstery available in a whopping 2,200 colours.

Prices obviously depend on your finish, but the one shown is selling for £675. In fact, there seems to be a 30 per cent discount promised on the site, so maybe even less.

Zanotti modernist Genni lounge chair

Genni

Is it a chair or is it a recliner? Well, in a way, the Zanotti Genni lounge chair is both.

A gem of the modernist era, it was designed by Gabriele Mucchi in 1935, still looking stylish over 70 years on.  For your money, you get a chrome-plated steel frame with steel springs, along with a polyurethane upholstered seat, adjustable to two positions.

Choose your colour of leather, but there’s no choice when it comes to price – £2,188 for every option.
