Mondaine Travel Pocket Alarm Watch

Mondaine_pocket

Not just a pocket watch, the Mondaine Travel Pocket Alarm Watch will even get you up in the morning.

This isn’t the first Mondaine we’ve featured here, regular readers will already know that this is modelled on the Swiss Railway Station Clock, first designed back in the 1940s by Hans Hilfiker. This particular version offers old school timekeeping as a pocket watch (with snake chain) or as an alarm clock, using the integrated stand. Aside from that, it has a quartz movement, glass and steel construction and a red leather pouch to keep it safe.

Yours for £135.

Dolce & Gabbana Leopard Lily bag

Leopard_lily

Weekend bags can often feel like little more than a necessary evil, especially for those required to fly on a regular basis. Finding practicality and style together is a bit of a challenge, but this D&G Leopard Lily bag might just have it.

With a great big dollop of rockabilly style thanks to the print, and to a lesser extent the handle shape that affects the way you carry, this is a little bit of retro luxury. Made of leather, with three large compartments, it promises to be sturdy and roomy too.

With a label like Dolce & Gabbana, it’s no surprise that this will set you back £1265.

J. Crew wool shift dress

Jcrew_wool_shift

There are so many things fashion writers would have you believe are ‘must have’ items, and we all know they’re usually anything but. A perennial classic, though, is the woolen dress for winter, and its one that at least makes sense year upon year.

This simple but stylish wool shift dress by J. Crew is a chic, pinafore style that’s most likely to be wearably stylish for years to come, if not always. The simple, high necked bodice contrasted with a fuller kneelength skirt, gives a demure look that’s fully grown up past the classroom.

Get it online for $148 from J. Crew.

Retro Tree Print Wallpaper

Ferm_dotty_220

This retro patterned wallpaper by Scandinavian company Ferm Living has been given the name “Dotty”, but rather than dots, the print is made up of little trees. The trees are yellow and brown and a very much in the Scandinavian folk art style.

It is being marketed as wallpaper for a child’s room, but used sparingly it could work in an adult’s room too. If you like the print but not as wallpaper, there is a cushion in the same pattern also available.

The wallpaper costs just over £50 per roll and is available from the Scandinavian Design Center.  The cushion costs just over £30.

French Connection 50s Cocktail Dress

50scocktaildress

Rather than buying a shiny or sequinned dress for the upcoming party season, it might be better to buy a dress that can be worn again once the Christmas decorations have come down. This 50s Cocktail Dress from French Connection is perfect as it is dressy enough for parties but simple enough for daytime.

Its cap sleeves and slash neckline make this more demure than the prom dresses currently dominating the high street and make it suitable for day wear too, but it has a scooped back that saves it from being too ordinary.

It costs £120 and can be bought online from ASOS.

Santa & Cole 1970s Cometa hanging lamp

Cometa

It might look like a DIY project, but the Santa & Cole Cometa hanging lamp is a piece of high-end 70s design.

It actually dates back to 1975 – Charles Dillon did originally make it as a home project for his wife Jane, the light being refined for commercial use. For your money, you get a white kite-like cloth shade that hangs from a ceiling, with a hidden aluminium cone operating as a reflector and a red cable holding the on/off switch.

Just tell your visitors it’s an art installation, they’re sure to be impressed. Yours for £293.
