Nixon’s Rolex-like 51-30 watch range

Nixon_rolex

Remember the Toy Watch Fluo range we featured some time back? It was a take on the classic 1950s Rolex Submariner, famous for featuring in 11 of the James Bond movies. Well, there’s another watch treading the same ground – the Nixon 51-30 watch range.

Very much in the style of the classic Submariner, the watches are available in a number of colours and finishes, all with a a custom three hand Swiss movement, easy to read tide sub-dial and chrono dials, not to mention a hardened mineral crystal face and stainless steel strap.

Not as cheap as the Toy Watch, but cheaper than the real thing at £320.

Henrik Thor-Larsen 1960s Ovalia Egg Chair reissued – with optional sound system

Ovalia

A 1960s classic that’s been unavailable for 30 years – but you can now buy the Henrik Thor-Larsen Ovalia Egg Chair once more.

This Scandinavian design classic was first seen back in 1968 and the 2008 version is very much the same chair – an egg-shaped shell of glass fibre lined with polyester cushions from a choice of over 20 colours. You can use it on its rotating stand or you can hang it from the ceiling. Either way, it’s a stunner.

But there is something new for 2008 – an interior speaker package from luxury speaker manufacturer JBL, fully upholstered and integrated, allowing you to enjoy your music in your own little space. Available now, prices start at £4,950.

Lomo Packrat bags

About_bag

Lomo doesn’t just make cool cameras, it makes some pretty smart add-ons too – like the Lomo Packrat bags.

Perfect for the big shop or the daily commute, the bags are available in two colours and two sizes – the larger one featuring the old Russian motif, the smaller (but not that small) with a screenprint of a vintage Lomo camera in a laurel. Aside from the design, the cotton canvas bags have a Lomo button on the overlong straps, an internal pocket and a padded bottom.

Prices are 30 Euros for the standard version, 40 Euros for the extra large.

Electra Amsterdam Girard Madonna bike now available to order

Girard3

A few weeks back, we covered the launch of the Bobbin Bicycles store in London. And fronting the launch was the Electra Amsterdam Girard Madonna Bicycle, which looked to be a one-off promotional item. How wrong we were.

You see, this super-cool bike is going into production. As you’ll probably realise, it is inspired by Eames collaborator Alexander Girard, with the saddle and grips in a pale blue and white 50s Girard print, coupled with a red powder-coated frame, pale blue rims, dress guards and two distinctive Girard folk characters.

You can order one now via Bobbin or wait until the launch in January – it will set you back £640. And we’re guessing it’s in limited numbers.

Leopard collar Hedren jacket from J. Crew

Hedren_jacket

Cardigans are a must have staple of any 50s inspired look, be it rockabilly, cheesecake or pin-up. This J. Crew jacket style cardi is one of the best modern interpretations I’ve seen from a mainstream fashion store. It’s only fitting, then, that it seems to be named for a great starlet of the time, Ms. Tippy Hedren.

The leopard collar is, of course, the statement making element of this piece, but the quality also meets the looks. Made in a Milano-knit merino wool it’s a lasting piece of Italian craftsmanship.

Get yours from J. Crew online for $298.
