Robin’s Nest: The Complete Series on DVD

Robins
If you happen to have 20 hours of your life spare and want to devote that time to the 70s British sitcom, we have just the thing – Robin’s Nest: The Complete Series.

Amazingly, this Man About The House spin-off was groundbreaking – the first time an unmarried couple were shown as living together. Aside from that, this is very much your typical comedy of the day. Based around a Fulham bistro (when was the last time you heard that word), Robin (Richard O’Sullivan) is helped by his girlfriend (and later wife) Vicky (Tessa Wyatt), who’s father Mr. Nicholls (Tony Britton) finances he eaterie – but doesn’t care much for his daughter’s squeeze. Oh yes – and there’s a one-armed Irish dishwasher called Albert Riddle (David Kelly), always on hand for a bit of mayhem.

A review is pretty much redundant – you’ll already know if this has a place in your collection. And if it does, the 7-disc set can be yours via Network for an RRP of £49.99 from 3rd November 2008.

Bruno Munari 1960s Falkland suspension light

Falkland_suspension

We covered the floor version a few months back, but we’ve not previously highlighted the Bruno Munari Falkland suspension light.

Bruno Munari produced the light back in 1964 for Danese, using an elasticated fabric (based on a pair of tights) to diffuse the light, held in position by a white tubular steel frame.

The downside with the diffuser is that it isn’t fireproof – that shouldn’t be an issue with private homes (unless you hang it over an open fire), but not good for restaurants, bars etc – a fireproof version is on its way though. A number of sizes available, with prices starting at £133.

As far as iconic film brands go, Star Wars might just be vying for the top spot. With so many spin offs, there’s bound to be plenty of greats. Lego‘s interpretation of the films has been a great success, combining two brilliant retro elements to quirky and fun effect.

Some clever folks have taken these lego figures and made them into fashion via these cufflinks. Available as stormtroopers (as shown), heads, or even a Darth Vader tie pin, they’re great fun, and will certainly make a good looking talking piece.

Vintage London Underground signs

Underground

Part history, part interior design and quite possibly part shrewd investment – these vintage London Underground signs are certainly eye-catching.

Where are they from? Well, the Underground obviously – they were used until around 30 years ago as ‘temporary’ signage when the standard signs were obscured, perhaps because of maintenance or fault.

They’ve been rescued from a dusty storeroom, framed and mounted professionally and now are ready to give your walls a quirky pop art vibe. Email Pedlars for availability, with prices from £199.
